If you’re not ready to book shows of your own\, how can you get comfortable on a stage? Open mic events can solve the problem. \nOpen mic nights serve as incubators for beginning musicians\, or for more practiced types\, they are a great way to test new material before throwing it into a big show. For the totally fresh player\, it can be a daunting experience. Here are 9 tips to rock open mic so you will be prepared to take the stage and get the most out of the experience. \n9 Tips to Rock Open Mic1. Know what kind of an open mic it is. Do a little research before you attend the event. Open mics are not universally the same. Some are all acoustic (no microphones or plugged-in instruments); some are coffeehouse-style where people sit in silence listening to players; some are jams where a backing band or equipment might be provided. Make a trip down to the open mic you’ve got in mind before you participate\, or contact the host to get the details. \n2. Everyone at an open mic knows it’s an open mic. People there are not expecting a Lady Gaga production to walk through the door. They’re expecting a musician (or possibly a small group) to share some material that might be polished\, or it might be the first time performed on a stage. Don’t stress about what people will think. They understand the spirit of the event. \n3. Feel totally comfortable with your material. You’ll probably only have a few songs (many open mics are set by a song or time limit\, usually about three songs or 15 minutes @ The Mission)\, so make sure you’re putting your best foot forward. Just in case you get rattled on stage\, make sure you know the tunes in and out. \n4. Don’t stress about what to bring. Whoever is running the open mic will have equipment for you and they should be fully capable of setting you up with it. If you’ve never plugged in a guitar or sung into a microphone—don’t worry. They’ll make sure you do it right and that it sounds good. That’s part of the Open Mic experience at The Mission. We have a full back line: Guitars – acoustic/electric\, electric & amp and bass & amp. Full drum kit & Yamaha keyboard. Mics\, cables\, stands. And our sound technician is here to help. \n5. Don’t be afraid to ask. Open mic beginners may think they are completely at the host’s mercy. Truth is\, we’re here to make you sound good! That said\, if you can’t hear yourself\, vocals are too loud\, guitar is too quiet\, whatever\, by all means\, tell them! \n6. Don’t be afraid to trust. The host should understand their sound system very well\, so trust that once you’re settled on stage they’re making it sound right out front. If you’re happy with what’s in your monitor sound\, leave the rest to them. We know our system inside and out. It’s a small room and you have 15 minutes. Let us do our job and make the room sound perfect for your performance. \n7. Support other players. If you don’t want to be judged\, don’t judge other people. Open mics are a place to try material you might not get to try on other stages. Celebrate the people who come to share their art. Cannot emphasize this enough! This is the spirit of Open Mic Nights at The Mission. Enough said. \n8. Network. Open mics are musician hangouts—take advantage! If you’re looking to start a band or find musicians to see elsewhere\, there’s a good chance they’ll be hanging out at an open mic. We’re on Season 16 at The Mission full of Open Mic Stories of success from Open Mic. \n9. Learn from the experience. Every time you walk away from an open mic\, there is something to learn. How were you received? What feedback did people give you? Did you feel more comfortable? How did you compare with the other players? Honestly analyze the event to improve your performance next time. And take the compliments even if you know you made mistakes. You still entertained folks. \n(10) And finally\, HAVE FUN! Open mics are meant\, most of all\, to be fun. Musicians get to mingle\, everyone gets to play\, and even if you have the biggest flub of all time—it’s all in the spirit of open mic. To take the stage at all is to win. Enjoy it\, learn from the experience\, and have a good time! Join us for Open Mic Night\, share some air and feel the Mission Magic! \n\n\nOpen Mic Night {Wednesdays!}\nOctober 22 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm\n\nTandem Duo\nOctober 24 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm\n\nJohn Nemeth\nOctober 25 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm\n\nSunday Blues Jam!\nOctober 26 @ 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm\n\nTex Carroll\nOctober 28 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

SUMMARY:John Nemeth
DESCRIPTION:October 25\n @\n7:30 pm\n –\n10:30 pm \nJohn Németh\n7:30-10:30 pm | Happy Hour 3-6 pm\n$20 @ Door \nAs a teenager in the early ‘90s growing up in the muddy potato fields of Idaho\, John Németh was drawn to the hard-edged hip hop sounds and rock bands of the day\, until a friend\, Tom Moore\, introduced him to the Junior Wells and Buddy Guy classic “Hoodoo Man Blues.” Together they formed Fat John & the 3 Slims\, which is still regarded as a legendary band in the Boise region. John played harp and sang in local bands\, often opening the show for nationally touring blues acts and quickly caught the ear of established blues musicians. It didn’t take long before he was releasing his own recordings\, “The Jack Of Harps” (2002) and “Come And Get It” (2004)\, featuring Junior Watson\, and performing in Junior Watson’s band. \nJohn relocated to San Francisco in 2004\, where he had the bitter-sweet good fortune to undertake a two-year stint with Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets\, filling in for the ailing Sam Myers. Németh immersed himself in the deep musical waters of the Bay area\, absorbing more of the soul and funk grooves of what he calls “the early East Bay Grease sound” of San Francisco and Oakland bands. \nJohn’s talents did not go unnoticed and he soon signed a recording contract with Blind Pig Records. His national debut for that label\, “Magic Touch” (2007)\, produced by Anson Funderburgh and featuring Junior Watson on guitar\, received an ecstatic response from fans and the media\, and he was hailed as the new voice of the blues. Living Blues enthused\, “Magic Touch gives hope that the blues will survive.” In 2008 Németh was recruited by Elvin Bishop to do some performances and contribute four vocal tracks to his Grammy-nominated album “The Blues Rolls On.” \nNémeth released two more albums on the Blind Pig label\, “Love Me Tonight” (2009) & “Name The Day (2010)\, both hitting #6 on the Billboard Blues Chart\, and beginning his long string of Blues Music Award (BMA) nominations\, numbering 20 at last count. John has also won two Blues Blast Music Awards – Best New Artist Debut Recording and Sean Costello Rising Star Award. John followed up with two independently released live albums in 2012\, “Blues Live” and “Soul Live.” \nIn 2013 John relocated to Memphis\, Tennessee\, where he teamed up with producer Scott Bomar and his classic Memphis Soul band\, the Bo-Keys\, to create an album of revisited soul classics\, “Memphis Grease” (2014 Blue Corn)\, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Blues Chart. John won the 2104 BMA for Best Soul Blues Male Artist\, followed by “Memphis Grease” winning Best Soul Blues Album in 2015. \nIn 2017 Németh released “Feelin’ Freaky” (produced by Luther Dickinson) on his own Memphis Grease label\, crushing all barriers of style and genre with an album of original songs that defied all the usual pigeonholes\, drawing from his strong influences in blues and R&B\, as well as contemporary sounds in hip hop and rock ‘n’ roll. Later that same year\, Németh was part of a side project “The Love Light Orchestra Featuring John Németh” recorded live at one of Memphis’ favorite watering holes\, Bar DKDC. The 10-piece band was initially envisioned by guitarist Joe Restivo\, vocalist John Németh and arranger/trumpeter Marc Franklin. \nNémeth returned to Electraphonic in December of 2019 with his seasoned road band of young gun players\, The Blue Dreamers\, featuring 19 year-old guitar phenom from Philadelphia\, Jon Hay\, drummer Danny Banks and Matt Wilson on bass for a rowdy southern swamp roots session resulting in his 10th album\, “Stronger Than Strong” demonstrating\, yet again\, his uncanny ability to skillfully blend retro and modern blues and soul into compelling music that is simultaneously old and new. \nJohnNémeth\nAmerican electric Blues and Soul harmonicist\, singer\, and songwriter \n \n JohnNémeth\n \n \n \n Nothing But A Woman by John Németh\nStronger Than Strong by John Németh\nLive from The Fallout Shelter: Celebrating 20 Years by John Németh\n \n\n\n Minors allowed with parent/guardian.\n \n\n Check out our bottom up tap beer\n \n\n Bringing quality live music to town in a clean safe environment\n \n\n“Keepin’ It Live Since 2009”\n\n 8 events found.\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n \n\n\n Events Search and Views Navigation	\n \n	\n	\n\n Search\n \n\n \n	\n Enter Keyword.
