SUMMARY:WAYLON PAYNE w/Adam Hunt
DESCRIPTION:WAYLON PAYNE \nTICKETS \nFACEBOOK LINK \nWEBSITE \nSPOTIFY \nADDITIONAL YOUTUBE VIDEOS \n \nMagic happens when everything comes together like it’s supposed to — when the joys and the pain\, the triumphs and the missteps all click into place to be seen for what they truly are. Waylon Payne’s Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me (releasing 9/11/20 via Carnival Recording Company / Empire) is such a moment\, the culmination of an extraordinary journey set to music.  \nA son of country music royalty\, a teenaged Baptist preacher turned addict and actor\, Payne sings about fathers and sons\, faith and addiction\, recovery and renewal with devastating clarity. His character-rich collection harks back to a way of telling stories in song that revealed kept secrets and promised mystery. Over his years\, Payne has felt the terrible power secrets can hold and learned the transformative value of releasing them. Finally\, he’s in a place where he can harness that power to create transcendent work.  \nPayne recorded Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me primarily at Southern Ground Nashville\, a converted century-old church building just off Music Row that once housed Monument Studios. Payne’s mother\, country singer Sammi Smith\, cut her iconic version of Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through the Night” at Monument. When Payne recorded his vocals\, he says\, “I stood in the same spot she stood and sang while she was pregnant with me.”  \nTo help realize his musical vision\, Payne worked with producers Eric Masse (Miranda Lambert\, Rayland Baxter\, Robert Ellis) and Frank Liddell (Lambert\, Lee Ann Womack\, Chris Knight) to assemble a group of musicians that spanned both genres and generations. In addition to highly regarded players like bassist Glenn Worf; guitarists Jedd Hughes\, Ethan Ballinger\, and Kris Donegan; and drummer Blake Oswald\, the team brought in Cage the Elephant guitarist Nick Bockrath\, as well as Mickey Raphael\, Willie Nelson’s longtime harmonica player and a former band mate of Payne’s father\, Jody Payne. Jerry Roe\, like Payne a second-generation music man whose father spent years working for Johnny Cash\, played both bass and drums. Other musicians on the album include longtime guitar player and friend Dean Person\, slide guitarist Harrison Whitford\, and violist Kristin Wilkinson\, who arranged and conducted all the strings.  \nAs a result\, Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me sounds both timeless and out of time. It exists in music’s liminal spaces\, the way the late ‘60s and early ‘70s albums of Kris Kristofferson and Bobbie Gentry did in their day. “Bobbie’s my songwriting hero\, the reason I do what I do — her and Kris\,” Payne says. “When my family threw me out\, I picked the toughest motherfucker I could think of and modeled myself after him. I learned how to be a man watching Kristofferson.”  \nLike those artists\, Payne draws from tradition while stretching beyond any notions of the mainstream\, ultimately standing apart from everything else.  \nPayne has come a long way from the first time he and Liddell met back in the ‘90s when Liddell worked for Decca Records. Payne showed up at Liddell’s office\, unannounced\, declaring his intentions to become a country star. It was the same sort of bold approach Tammy Wynette had made walking in on Billy Sherrill about a block away and 30 years before\, and\, like Wynette\, Payne hadn’t brought any songs to bolster his case. Still\, Liddell found Payne’s combination of raw talent\, personal magnetism\, and determination compelling\, even if it still needed to be focused.  \nPayne eventually figured out how to harness those abilities\, releasing his first album and launching an acting career that included portraying Jerry Lee Lewis in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and Nashville guitar legend Hank Garland in 2008’s Crazy. At the same time his career seemed to be coming together\, though\, a drug problem that had started in his teens was developing to a full-blown meth addiction that was ripping Payne’s life apart. “I was acting like a spoiled rock star\,” he says. “By the time I started making movies\, my ego was a little out there. Then you add meth to that\, and you turn psychotic without realizing it.”  \nNow eight years clean\, Payne finally can put all the elements of his life in their proper place. Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me testifies to a decade-long journey\, capturing songs and moments from his most troubled time\, as well as the grace and the relationships that led him out of it.  \nThere’s tenderness to these songs\, an empathy for lost souls who may or may not find their way home. Payne wrestles with the legacy of family dysfunctions in songs like “Sins of the Father” and “What A High Horse.” A pair of poignant vignettes\, “Shiver” and “Old Blue Eyes\,” team with tragedy and chilling beauty. “There are jewels buried deep in the record\, and if you’re a junkie\, you’ll catch them\,” Payne says.  \nHe views “Dangerous Criminal” as his point of reckoning. “It’s basically me admitting I have a problem\,” he says. “I am a person who will get himself into trouble and in danger unless I keep myself in check.”  \n“After the Storm” and “Precious Thing” play like prayers\, while “Santa Anna Winds” was written as a lullaby for the young boy whose voice is the first thing heard on the album\, a child Payne views as almost a son and by whose first birthday he marks his sobriety. Payne also recorded his own version of “All the Trouble\,” the GRAMMY- nominated song he wrote with Lee Ann Womack and Adam Wright and which Womack recorded for her 2017 album The Lonely\, The Lonesome & The Gone. Payne’s talent as a songwriter has also been recognized by artists Ashely Monroe\, Miranda Lambert and Wade Bowen\, who have chosen to record his songs.  \nPayne may have recorded Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me in Nashville\, but it started a decade ago in Texas\, as he came through the worst of his addiction and got clean with the help of family and friends there. “For a while\, I couldn’t even write\,” he says. “I couldn’t put thoughts together\, because I had really fried my brain. Once I got sober\, everything came.”  \nFor Payne\, each song reflects a different situation in his life. Together\, though\, they tell of a prodigal son returning home — not to the family of his birth\, but home to the true self he’d once nearly abandoned.  \n“The essential DNA elements of this record are my self-written confessions and pleas for forgiveness\,” he says. “It all revolves around me getting right with myself and the universe. Maybe I still am a preacher in a way — I just channel into what’s supposed to be.”  \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n \n \n \n   \nhttps://youtu.be/6ItZ_0IDpUQ   \nhttps://youtu.be/BISTGzjGwUM?t=44   \n \n     \n\nADAM HUNT \nFACEBOOK \nTruly one of Jefferson City’s and Mid Missouri’s music gems\, Adam Hunt joins us for All Night Happy Hour. Sharing originals and covers\, with powerful vocals and picking. You may recognize him from Murphy’s Ford\, but you never know where he might pop up. Joining fellow artists on the sidewalk\, hootenannies\, front porches\, around the dining room table\, but you know it will be awesome. A beautiful soul and friend to The Mission. \n \n \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/14366796_182210608877781_984894411_n.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Adam-Hunt-The-Bridge.mp4\n  \n \n   \n \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Adam-Hunt-Have-A-Little-Faith-In-Me.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Adan-Hunt-Fill-No-Glass-For-Me.mp4

SUMMARY:Josh Morningstar
DESCRIPTION:w/Clay Benne\nDoors@4pm/SHOW@8 \n$8 Tickets Day of Show \nJosh Morningstar Website and Facebook links. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/osjcagTQfFo?t=10\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/_7iS47Iwcww?t=2\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/JFZC1lW1Kt8?t=4\n\n\n\n\nLast night\, the blue light reflected off of the cement in a tiny listening lounge in St. Charles\, Iowa. A conformed church housed a bar in the front full of rogue townies\, and a lounge in the back. “Turn your phones off\,” the host of the lounge barked into the microphone. “Turn them off\, sit back\, and pay attention. This guy is quiet\, and he’s going to tell you some stories.” And my eyebrows raised when his hoarse voice breathed life into a quiet\, rapt crowd. With his eyes closed\, he sang songs -chunks of him offered up to a willing mass. “I’m not a singer\,” he said eventually\, looking down at his guitar. I leaned in to listen harder. “I’m not a guitarist. I’m a song writer. “In his songs were stories and in his stories were words pushed together that took my breath away\, and in his stories were words that oozed the Blood from the Before\, and in his stories were ripped edges. I wanted to know it all. I wanted to know the names of the chunks and I wanted to inspect the hole in his chest and I wanted to know where those melodies come from and I wanted to know how he chooses the words. I wanted to know what he has written on the scraps of paper in his wallet and I wanted to know if his handwriting changes when he knows it’s a good one. It was a listening lounge\, and we were supposed to be quiet and listen\, but he played a song we all knew. And we sang the words with him. We couldn’t help it -not one single person. A crooked grin formed behind the microphone and I’m fairly certain that’s why he does what he does. Not for the lights. Not for the cheers. For sure not for the money. He does it for the people that hear the story and say\, “Yes. Me\, too. I have been there\, too. “In a town out in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa\, a group of people sang the words back to him that he had written. A melody chunked out of one disaster from his life\, and sewn together with a rhyme\, and maybe that’s how you heal the hurt….Vulnerability. Standing up on a stage when you’d rather be holding a pen. Sure looks an awful lot like courage.-Rebecca Cooper\, Author \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA curious and fresh combination of grit and humor\, Josh Morningstar is knocking down stereotypes with his worn boots and unforgettable raspy voice. He is a small-town boy that originally hails from Funkstown\, Maryland\, and he carries those roots in a suitcase with him everywhere he goes. His small-town charm is evident in the way he greets people\, and in the conversational way that he weaves the stories of his life into his music. \n\n\n\nIn front of the bright lights and behind the microphone isn’t where Morningstar feels most at home. Named the 2018 Texas Radio Songwriter of the Year\, he and his Kristofferson signed guitar have knocked out melodies in dingy hotels all across the country. He’s written songs alongside Kendell Marvel\, Channing Wilson\, Autumn McEntire\, and many more. Morningstar was also the writer of several Cody Jinks songs\, including his #1 hit “Must Be The Whiskey”. \n\n\n\nHis lyrics force listeners to sit up and pay attention\, and his songs are always full of truth-bearing stories. The familial connection Morningstar forges with people continues long after his shows are over. Josh Morningstar has shared the stage with some of today’s most sought after folk and country artists\, including Shooter Jennings\, Cody Jinks\, Tyler Childers\, Todd Snider\, Colter Wall\, and Ward Davis. Morningstar continues to lead the charge on the front lines of a new wave of country music – one full of soulful honesty\, the familiar and true twang of an old guitar\, and provoking melodies that tattoo stories to the souls of the listeners. His ability to write about tragedies and victories enamor his tribe of self-proclaimed “Crazies”\, and the best part of it all is that he’s just getting started. \n\n\n\nSong writing credits with: Hayes Carll\, “Big” Al Anderson (NRBQ)\, Kendell Marvel\, Cody Jinks\, Erin Enderlin\, Autumn McEntire\, Hannah Blaylock (Edens Edge)\, Sunny Sweeney\, Ward Davis\, Larry McCoy\, Mark McGuinn\, Billy Don Burns\, Alex Williams\, Channing WIlson\, Wyatt Durette\, Casper McWade\, Steve Dean\, Chris Gantry\, John Berry\, Sam Williams\, Waylon Payne \n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/ZHJ3s3Yeogo?t=2\n\n\nCLAY BENNE “For me\, music started when I would ride in my dad’s truck with the radio stuck on classic rock. Growing up around it made me want to pick up a guitar and learn to play along. But it wasn’t until late in high school that I understood how much of a hold it had on me\, even more so when there’s a girl involved. Artists like Eric Church and Kip Moore helped me make sense of a lot of things in my life and inspired me to want to do it for myself by writing my own songs. Music has always been there for me in any situation and I hope that I can share that with others.” – Clay Benne \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/xTz0ahqIQY0JB94.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/wjtz26FB3UmkorK.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/HnwhDZj4UVm0kkT.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/K60qOLEzbKmgXnU.mp4

All this while remaining feverishly reverent to the roots of country music\, greeting current day affairs head on\, and chasing whiskey shots with the rowdiest banter one can muster. \nCurrently touring both the US as well as Internationally Kayla Ray is a quick rising favorite of the independent scene. Kayla’s latest studio single\, “The Jameson Waltz” (2019) more than quadrupled it’s projected numbers in it’s first quarter. Kayla’s most recent full album release\, “Yesterday & Me” (2018) received high praise in both the United States as well as the UK earning Ray the number 1 spot on Kelly Gregory of \,“Country Music People” Magazine’s\, top albums list of 2018. \nDespite a recent surge\, Kayla Ray is far from new to the scene. Interested in the long game\, Kayla has been at this pursuit the majority of her young life. Kayla’s pedigree comes as an almost novella type story. That of a budding classic. Despite growing up rather hard\, as a child Ray often entered herself into local talent contests and variety shows. Because of these efforts\, Ray was lucky enough to find herself playing often around the Legendary Gimble Family in the Waco\, Texas area. The talent\, kindness\, and class of the Gimble Family remain a large influence for Kayla Ray. \nShe\, then underage and\, in a charge of independence\, booked her first headlining gig at Papa Joes of Lorena\, Texas. Where as she puts it\, “Billy Joe Shaver shot that guy in the face and got away with it.” Kayla built a band and spent a few years touring Texas and taking necessary knocks before making her entry into the national touring scene. She made this entry employed as tour manager for accomplished songwriter Jason Eady. During this time in addition to her tour managing duties\, Kayla opened shows\, sang duets and\, “kept the boys in line”. \nKayla eventually grew from this position and left the job in 2014 to tour independently. Although\, remaining a close confidant\, Jason Eady had a large hand in producing both of Kayla’s full length albums. \nOver the last decade Kayla has received many awards and accolades. And\, in addition to touring with Eady\, Ray has shared stages with artists like Cody Jinks\, Erin Enderlin\, Jo Dee Messina\, Jamie Lin Wilson\, Whiskey Myers\, Mo Pitney\, Marcia Ball\, Reckless Kelly\, Jason Bolen\, The Turnpike Troubadors\, Shane Smith and the Saints\, Ray Wylie Hubbard and countless others. \nFrom honky tonk dance tempos\, to sit you down and contemplate life ballads\, Kayla Ray’s music does not disappoint. Her feverish reverence to country music\, an indisputable work ethic\, stoic beauty\, and massive personality\, make Kayla Ray an embodiment of what country music should be.            \n Justin Clyde Willams Website Justin Clyde Williams FaceBook Justin Clyde Williams Instagram https://youtu.be/AQ5h2i82MBA?t=12 https://youtu.be/k2UJBOx16bE https://youtu.be/qwfiCX4phEc \nArmed with a flat top or backed by a full band\, Justin Clyde Williams takes listeners on an emotional journey with his songs and stories you can relate to no matter where you call home. \nCapturing the full spectrum of life\, the good times and the bad\, most of his songs you’ll hear serve as a soundtrack to his own experiences with love\, death\, heartache and that one time he “ate just a little bit too much of that gummy bear” \nRaised on the sounds of traditional country and bluegrass music with a variety of influences\, when he’s not performing himself\, its not uncommon to see Clyde playing side man for one of his buddies or appearing with Tyler Hatley in the Dick and Tammy show. \nJustin Clyde Williams always leaves people wanting more with an unwavering experience that is blunt\, therapeutic\, candid and above all – unforgettable.  \nJustin Clyde Williams “Wounds” Original.  https://open.spotify.com/artist/2os6M8Uk9phzs6NOxQrNnc?autoplay=true

Poetry\, comedy\, spoken word\, dance. Bring whatya got!\nMinors are welcome\, but will need a parent/guardian to join them.\nPlease respect your reserved time and arrive 30 minutes ahead of your chosen time.\n\n\n9 Tips to Rock Open Mic \n Featured Article\, How To  Making Music \nAny performer will tell you that you can practice for years in the comfort and privacy of your room\, but it’s not until you take your act to a stage in front of live people that you’ll really hone your craft. If you’re not ready to book shows of your own\, how can you get comfortable on a stage? Open mic events can solve the problem. \n\n\nOpen mic nights serve as incubators for beginning musicians\, or for more practiced types\, they are a great way to test new material before throwing it into a big show. For the totally fresh player\, it can be a daunting experience. Here are 9 tips to rock open mic so you will be prepared to take the stage and get the most out of the experience. \n9 Tips to Rock Open Mic \n1. Know what kind of an open mic it is. Do a little research before you attend the event. Open mics are not universally the same. Some are all acoustic (no microphones or plugged-in instruments); some are coffeehouse-style where people sit in silence listening to players; some are jams where a backing band or equipment might be provided. Make a trip down to the open mic you’ve got in mind before you participate\, or contact the host to get the details. \n2. Everyone at an open mic knows it’s an open mic. People there are not expecting a Lady Gaga production to walk through the door. They’re expecting a musician (or possibly a small group) to share some material that might be polished\, or it might be the first time performed on a stage. Don’t stress about what people will think. They understand the spirit of the event. \n3. Feel totally comfortable with your material. You’ll probably only have a few songs (many open mics are set by a song or time limit\, usually about three songs or 15 minutes @ The Mission)\, so make sure you’re putting your best foot forward. Just in case you get rattled on stage\, make sure you know the tunes in and out.  \n4. Don’t stress about what to bring. Whoever is running the open mic will have equipment for you and they should be fully capable of setting you up with it. If you’ve never plugged in a guitar or sung into a microphone—don’t worry. They’ll make sure you do it right and that it sounds good. That’s part of the Open Mic experience at The Mission. We have a full back line: Guitars – acoustic/electric\, electric & amp and bass & amp. Full drum kit & Yamaha keyboard. Mics\, cables\, stands. And our sound technician is here to help. \n5. Don’t be afraid to ask. Open mic beginners may think they are completely at the host’s mercy. Truth is\, we’re here to make you sound good! That said\, if you can’t hear yourself\, vocals are too loud\, guitar is too quiet\, whatever\, by all means\, tell them! \n6. Don’t be afraid to trust. The host should understand their sound system very well\, so trust that once you’re settled on stage they’re making it sound right out front. If you’re happy with what’s in your monitor sound\, leave the rest to them. We know our system inside and out. It’s a small room and you have 15 minutes. Let us do our job and make the room sound perfect for your performance.  \n7. Support other players. If you don’t want to be judged\, don’t judge other people. Open mics are a place to try material you might not get to try on other stages. Celebrate the people who come to share their art. Cannot emphasize this enough! This is the spirit of Open Mic Nights at The Mission. Enough said. \n8. Network. Open mics are musician hangouts—take advantage! If you’re looking to start a band or find musicians to see elsewhere\, there’s a good chance they’ll be hanging out at an open mic. We’re on Season 12 at The Mission full of Open Mic Stories of success. \n9. Learn from the experience. Every time you walk away from an open mic\, there is something to learn. How were you received? What feedback did people give you? Did you feel more comfortable? How did you compare with the other players? Honestly analyze the event to improve your performance next time. And take the compliments even if you know you made mistakes. You still entertained folks. \n(10) And finally\, HAVE FUN! Open mics are meant\, most of all\, to be fun. Musicians get to mingle\, everyone gets to play\, and even if you have the biggest flub of all time—it’s all in the spirit of open mic. To take the stage at all is to win. Enjoy it\, learn from the experience\, and have a good time! Join us for Open Mic Night\, share some air and feel the Mission Magic!

DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm \nSHOW@7:30pm \n$5 Cover \nFACEBOOK LINK \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Cody-Pursifull.mp4 \n\n\n\n \n“I grew up around music watching my Grandpa play Country & Western to his fans. Watching Hee-Haw and The Grand Ole Opry every night with that same great man added to my inspiration to pursue my passion for music. Once I hit the age of 5 my grandpa started showing me chords on the acoustic guitar which lead to starting guitar lessons with a Missouri Folk Music Legend Lee Ruth at Crazy Music in Columbia\, Missouri. Lee showed me how to put the chords together to form a song and introduced me to Traditional Folk and Bluegrass tunes. I continued lessons with Lee for about 8 years until I discovered the band Free and Jimi Hendrix. These artists steered me towards my love of the Les Paul and the Stratocaster sending me in a different musical direction. As the years went on I have been continuously influenced by bands such as The Allman Brothers\, The Band of Gypsies\, The Grateful Dead\, and Cream. Because of these influences I became partial to what is known as “The Southern Sound” or “Southern Rock”. It was that exact sound that paved the road ahead of me in my music career. Although “The Southern Sound” is my first love\, I still yearned for something more. This yearning sparked my journey with Solo Acoustic performances playing Old Gospel and traditional folk tunes. In 2010 my mother moved to New York City and I would soon follow her to experience the Big Apple myself. After living in New York City a year and a half I never really found a place I felt musically comfortable with. After the Towers fell on 9/11 I knew at that moment it was time go back home to Missouri where my heart truly lies. Once back in the Show Me State I started to immerse myself into the music scene of Columbia\, Missouri. I religiously attended the local Blues Jams and eventually befriended Ted & Shelly Tyson. The Tyson’s had a Chicago style Blues band called Serious Blues Band and they quickly invited me to become a member. We played our hearts out for 5 years before that yearning for something more started to overcome me and I made the decision to try my hand at forming my own band. I established The Highwater Band in 2014 with fellow bandmates Don Atchley and The Jolly Brother’s bassist Tim Shields. The excitement of my electric band needed some balance\, so I decided to go back that old Folk\, Country\, and Bluegrass music learning as many songs as I could to continue down the path of my solo acoustic career. Musical inspirations such as Jerry Garcia\, Kevin Welch\, and Bob Dylan added to my influence. After 3 years with The Highwater Band we parted ways in the Summer of 2017. Parting ways was a bitter sweet moment\, but it encouraged me to really find my place and allowed me more time to focus my energy on acoustic endeavors. I started writing my own songs with the first hit being a tune called “End Of The Line”. I pulled my inspiration from my moments living in New York City during 9/11 and the following year I wrote “Graveyard Showdown” building on those same experiences. I wanted to pay tribute to that same great man to started the whole thing and composed “His Guitar”. Music is more than just notes on a paper and words on a sheet\, its about the looks on fans faces after hearing my tunes which for me is priceless.” – Cody Pursifull

Yes\, I admitted that publicly. LOL! However\, sharing their talent and time during the holiday is greatly appreciated. There is nothing family friendly about the evening\, but laughter rings throughout the night\, the music is stellar and I promise someone will walk through the door you’re happy to see. We’re on Season 13 at The Mission full of Open Mic Stories of success.

No Aldeans\, Bryans\, or Florida Georgia anythings…..just quality\, smokin’ country with a taste of rock and whatever else we sprinkle in…. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBen Van Dyke – Lead Guitar/Rhythm Guitar/Concerned Looks Towards The Rhythm Section\n\n\nIn High School\, he was once voted “most likely to succeed David Hasselhoff in Baywatch”. Instead\, he scored the lead part in a live stage production entitled “Meet Me In Fullerton” which was the story of a young soon to be musical pioneer in search of his hot tub time machine….or something like that.\n\n\nAt any rate\, the production ran for a staggering 4.5 hours and played in QuickTrip parking lots all over the Midwest. Just like David Hasselhoff\, Ben is HUGE in Germany.\n\n\n \nThese days\, Ben spends his time teaching his herd of Amazonian Pick Beetles to recreate the half time formations of the Mizzou Marching band. It’s truly riveting.\n\n\n \nHe’s also currently the Hot Licks Operations Manager for Funkytonk and his responsibilities include making sure Kyle remembers to walk to the A\, and Neil remembers the difference between major and minor chords.\n\n\nAs a side note\, Ben spends so much time dining at the local Mexican restaurant\, the owners refer to him as The Angry Enchilada\, The Hispanic Titanic\, and last but not least\, because of his love of their massive #4 burrito….The Mexicutioner so if you want to make a request\,\, approach Ben’s side of the stage with a great deal of caution.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nNeil Harms – Lead Vocals and Guitar\n\n\nProud to hail from the town where the Phillips head screwdriver was invented\, Neil was once known to collect dryer lint to sculpt into likenesses of his favorite guitar heroes.\n \n\n\nNeil has spent the last few years as an over the phone therapist specializing in issues plaguing aging guitarists. His therapy practice is vastly successful mostly due to the accent he uses when he speaks to his clients as it bears an uncanny resemblance to 80’s celebrity sex therapist\, Dr Ruth.\n \n\n\nWhile a long term member and good steward to the local music scene\, his fierce guitar prowess will often leave you speechless at a Funkytonk show however\, we caution you to reconsider should you ever decide to approach him to request “Wagon Wheel”…..go on\, we dare ya \n\n\n\nKyle Caraway – Bass/Vocals \nThis sexy hunk of 5 o’clock shadow is the most introverted member of the band. Kyle has spent the last 11 years hiding in a one bedroom flat in Point Place\, Wisconsin while spraying rental shoes in the local bowling alley. \nNeil knew he had a bass player with a true appreciation of the classics when he found out Kyle once worked as a staffer for the Hollywood Squares TV show and was in charge of managing Rip Taylor’s moustache wax\, inventorying Paul Lynde’s ascots\, and maintaining Phyllis Diller’s bikini line. \nBetween shows\, Kyle can be found at local nursing homes giving back to the community by grinding toenails for short-armed senior citizens. \nFunkytonk performances will guarantee you will get to witness Kyle sweating bullets trying to keep up with the musical genius of the other members of the band while managing the responsibility of having the biggest G string in the venue and hearing the voice of his bass sensei who used to provide Kyle encouragement by saying\, “I like the thing you tried to do there” (that’s for you Al)……. \nOn a side note\, Kyle is from the town where the flathead screwdriver was invented so he and Neil knew each other over the years from competing against each other in the community screwdriver flag football tournaments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Parr – Drums and Backing Vocals \nHe may look like a well seasoned musician\, but this suave and debonair fella recently retired from a life as the hair stylist for British double agents with the famed MI-6 secret service\, left his Renault LeCar behind\, and recently returned to central Missouri to reconnect with his musical roots. \nAt a Funkytonk show\, you can look forward to Chris not only creating and holding the pocket as the anchor of Central Missouri’s fiercest new rhythm section\, but he’ll also be in the parking lot of the venue collecting donated roadkill as he is the chief hat maker for Silver Dollar City’s gift shop (drumming doesn’t pay as good as fixing hair in England). \n\n\n\n  \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:JOE STAMM BAND!!! {Returns} @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm\nSHOW@8PM\nTickets @Door $10\nTable Reservations $20  SOLD OUT \nFACEBOOK {Joe Stamm Band} \nWEBSITE {Joe Stamm Band} \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nJoe Stamm Band’s newest country-rock album is as brutally authentic as the Midwestern plains and people that inspire these songs. A year-round working musician\, Stamm has become something of an anthropologist of the tiny towns dotting middle America. Thanks to his fondness for this so-called flyover country\, and his crew of down-home troubadours\, Stamm has created the soundtrack to the heart of America: Midwest Town (release date 9-10-21). \nJSB\, established in 2013\, offers distinct storytelling mixed with a signature Black Dirt Country Rock sound – a sound that Stamm defines as “a nod to our Midwestern roots\, as well as the Red Dirt music scene\, which has had a big influence on our music.” Fans can expect the fearless Black Dirt Country Rock sound from Dave Glover’s inventive lead guitar\, Bruce Moser’s fortifying bass\, and Tim Fiers’ heart-pounding drums on the new album. \nCutting his teeth playing in middle-of-nowhere dives\, Stamm earned the stage presence and grit it would take to support artists like Chris Knight\, Blackberry Smoke\, Sunny Sweeney\, Tyler Childers\, Whiskey Myers\, Jamey Johnson\, and more. It’s the same blue-collar outlaw spirit from his early days that Stamm brings to any stage and every audience today. \n“There’s a sinewy\, rootsy texture to his inflections\, always evocative and drenched in a rock ‘n roll spirit.” — B-Sides & Badlands \nAs a native to the creek banks\, cornfields\, and barstools of central Illinois\, Stamm quite literally represents the Midwest’s collective story. Taking his high school football team to state\, suffering an injury in college\, learning to play guitar in his downtime – it’s all part of Stamm’s journey to the stage. Yet\, throughout Midwest Town\, he solidifies that he’s more than the heartland’s football-star-turned-rockstar. Stamm digs deeper\, unearthing relatable stories of a Vietnam vet\, a long-haul trucker\, a medicine man\, a family broken apart. Storytelling at its rawest? Yes. Biographical to America? Absolutely. \nDescribing the band’s second full-length studio album\, Stamm explains\, “Midwest Town isn’t about one kind of person. It’s about all of us and our shared experiences. It’s about relating to someone else’s story–maybe even someone you’ve never met before.” \nObviously curated with care\, the album kicks off with a chugging\, distorted guitar and Stamm’s friendly twang. Whether or not you’ve experienced a tour across the middle of America\, “Pocketful of Quarters” will sit you down on that stool in a roadside diner\, swapping stories with a seasoned trucker. The narrative stream continues into the album’s namesake\, “Midwest Town.” This single will make you think of Turnpike Troubadours in their prime\, cicadas buzzing on a hot summer day\, and a place – maybe a “two-lane Midwest town” – you left long ago. \n“Empty Places\,” a ghostly ballad many will recognize from Stamm’s acoustic album\, Stories: Live & Unplugged\, spotlights his gift for place and character formation. An eerie reminder of America’s darker qualities\, this song is as honest and unforgiving as the January wind blowing across snow-scorched plains. \nStamm also delivers the two-steppin’ drinking songs that pair well with classics like James McMurtry’s “Choctaw Bingo” and Garth Brooks’ “Ain’t Goin’ Down’ (‘til the Sun Comes Up).” And throughout the middle of the album\, his words will make you see yourself as a blue-collar worker just trying to get by\, a wild townie chasing down a dream\, and a father who finds that “it pays more to fill a pipe with smoke.” \nToward the end of the record\, Stamm and the band take a subtle detour in time and place. While the album was produced in Iowa and Nashville\, “The Ghost” could’ve just as easily been written\, recorded\, and mastered in the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. This bayou rock anthem is as menacing as it is bluesy\, betraying a strong Whiskey Myers influence on the band’s sound. \nFinally\, Stamm makes his way back home\, ending with a lonesome acoustic track that’s probably as autobiographical as any song on this record. A song that reinforces Midwestern Gentleman’s musing: “[Stamm’s] story is an American tale.” \nJoe has honed his craft for writing the way folks speak\, using specifics to relate universally\, and finding happiness in the little things. Joe Stamm Band has taken those words and stories and matched them to country-rock riffs that will keep Midwest Town spinning round ‘n’ round your turntable.

DESCRIPTION:BUY YOUR TICKETS AT THE DOOR \nDoors@6pm \nSHOW@8pm \nTickets @Door $12 \nTABLE RESERVATIONS $20 – SOLD OUT \nWEBSITE {Josh Morningstar} \nFACEBOOK {Josh Morningstar} \n\n\n\n\nLast night\, the blue light reflected off of the cement in a tiny listening lounge in St. Sure looks an awful lot like courage.-Rebecca Cooper\, Author \nA curious and fresh combination of grit and humor\, Josh Morningstar is knocking down stereotypes with his worn boots and unforgettable raspy voice. He is a small-town boy that originally hails from Funkstown\, Maryland\, and he carries those roots in a suitcase with him everywhere he goes. His small-town charm is evident in the way he greets people\, and in the conversational way that he weaves the stories of his life into his music. \nIn front of the bright lights and behind the microphone isn’t where Morningstar feels most at home. \nHis lyrics force listeners to sit up and pay attention\, and his songs are always full of truth-bearing stories. \nSong writing credits with: Hayes Carll\, “Big” Al Anderson (NRBQ)\, Kendell Marvel\, Cody Jinks\, Erin Enderlin\, Autumn McEntire\, Hannah Blaylock (Edens Edge)\, Sunny Sweeney\, Ward Davis\, Larry McCoy\, Mark McGuinn\, Billy Don Burns\, Alex Williams\, Channing WIlson\, Wyatt Durette\, Casper McWade\, Steve Dean\, Chris Gantry\, John Berry\, Sam Williams\, Waylon Payne \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWEBSITE {Billy Don Burns} \nFACEBOOK {Billy Don Burns} \n\n\n\n\n“Billy Don Burns is a true Country Music Warrior. He wears his battle scars with honor\, depicting the stories of his life in his songs with brutal and beautiful honesty. He’s respected far and wide for his long career in songwriting and performing\, and he’s still out there. He’s lived it and breathed it through lifetimes of country music passion and pain. Carrying the guitar like a sword on his back\, he battles for the Poet. He battles for the Artist. He battles for the souls who defy modern convention. And every time he strikes a chord in some smoke-filled Honky Tonk\, he wins. Billy Don Burns started out in this business working with legends\, and somewhere along the way he became one himself.” \n-Outlaw Magazine \n“Friend forever\nBilly Don is wise beyond his years\nGreat writer\nGreat man\nA leader in all walks of life\nThe best man to have on your side\nNo matter how dangerous the situation”\n– Billy Joe Shaver

DESCRIPTION:Doors @5PM \nSHOW 8:30-Midnight \nTICKETS @DOOR $12 \nFACEBOOK {Forrest McCurren} \nWEBSITE {Forrest McCurren} \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMissouri-raised singer-songwriter Forrest McCurren’s music is a celebration of the “luckiness of life.” In fact\, you could consider his debut album Oh Me\, Oh My (out August 19) a soundtrack to those moments of human connection that feel almost cosmic. (“To me\, the best songs are human and help us to realize how much we all share\,” McCurren says.) Debut single “Little Rock\,” inspired by John Prine\, a long roadtrip and a roadside motel\, finds the Midwest troubadour penning a homesick love song for his wife Margaret. “I had been on the road for a couple days\, following different rivers (mainly the Mississippi) and listening to different records (mainly CCR and John Prine’s ‘Sweet Revenge’) when I pulled into Little Rock. I booked the motel room based on the roadside\, neon sign I had seen on Google images\, usually a safe bet\, but when I checked-in the room was a complete mess and the AC wouldn’t turn off\,” McCurren tells Wide Open Country. “I probably could have had my room switched but the owner\, and from what I could tell the only employee\, was a sweet lady named Ramona that had run the place since the 60’s and I didn’t want to trouble her so I decided I’d go out and stay up late enough that I didn’t care that the bed sheets hadn’t been washed. I woke up the next morning with a hangover and a heartache for home and Margaret. I sang the lines into my phone on my drive back to Missouri and wrote it down as soon as I got home (after hugs and kisses).” The song’s video features Forrest and Margaret hitting the road for a scenic Missouri road trip. “Margaret and I met up with buddies\, and creative-forces-of-nature\, Brett Jackson (also a mid-Missourian) and Aaron Lawrence of Intrepid Creative. One of my favorite movie lines is from Cool Hand Luke when Paul Newman says\, ‘I never planned anything in my life’ and this video was no exception save one ‘planning’ aka whiskey-drinking session the night before\,” he says. “I wanted the video to reflect the chorus of the song\, being away from home and missing it and/or someone. The result was a long\, winding drive from Kansas City back to my Papaw’s (Big Forrest) farm in Mid-Missouri with Margaret in the passenger seat and the Intrepid Creative boys right behind. Important stops included: highway firework/cigarette store\, hidden Missouri river lookouts\, small town main streets\, Crazy Good Burritos in Columbia\, and the fields and forests of Callaway County.” Raised on the lyrics of Willie Nelson\, Bruce Springsteen and Townes Van Zandt\, McCurren values truth and human connection above all in his songwriting. “I never had a plan in my life; music has always given me something to keep mefocused\,” he says in a press statement. “I always try to write one true sentence. Most of the songs I have kept\, the first line I wrote was the first line of the song. Words come first\, then melodies get inspired by the words. I trust the quickness of the way I write. I am always jotting down rhymes. Songs have given me a way of understanding who I am and relating to people.” Wide Open Country – BY BOBBIE JEAN SAWYER | MAY 19\, 2022

The show would go down infamously in history and Down Side Up’s journey would begin. Joe Lawler soon after parted ways\, but will always remain a founding member. In order to prepare for the 7th grade talent show Ryan and Aaron would join forces with friends Jason Kremer (lead guitar) and Adam Buhr (bass). This team in fact did go on to nail their talent show performance and make several house party\, birthday\, and county fair appearances. Freshmen year of high school the band once again parted. Aaron Mankin and Ryan Mankin were soon introduced to Helias High School Senior\, Hunter O’Donnell\, bass player. The three of them and guitarist Jason Kremer once again prepared for yet another talent show but their audition was denied. Ryan Mankin\, Aaron Mankin\, and Hunter O’Donnell\, the current lineup\, began their long jouney of vengeance\, delving deep into themselves and harnessing their Rock n’ Roll chakra. The trio began playing bars/music venues in 2013 at such establishments as the Mission in Jefferson City\, MO and later the Bridge in Columbia\, MO\, now located in Jefferson City. Down Side Up released their first EP “Down Side Up”\, recorded and produced by Pete Szkolka Music Productions\, in March of 2015. The band has since released three singles: “Hollow Street”\, “50 Reasons”\, and “Jibberish”\, recorded and produced by Jack Gue with Winksigh Recorders formerly known as Meth Lab Recording Studio. The boys of Down Side Up play their original music as well as classic rock and 90s covers all over Jefferson City and Columbia\, Missouri\, and are always working on new material which they hope to release in the future. \n    \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n             \n     \n\n

SUMMARY:PAUL LAEMMLI {Thursday Night Special!!} @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@5PM \nSHOW 8-10 \nNO COVER – Tips kindly appreciated! \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPAUL LAEMMLI\n\n\n\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Paul-Christmas-video.mp4\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nRaised throughout Mid-Missouri\, Paul grew up swimming in the deep end of a family of musicians. Paul honed his craft around the wood stove at the family cabin\, in churches\, and in the blues clubs of Kansas City and Springfield\, MO. While playing all over the great state of Missouri\, he earned a music degree and continues to earn a reputation for connecting people with story songs and skillful guitar work. Heavily influenced by the Springfield Sound and the blues scene in Kansas City\, Paul currently resides near his grandparent’s home in Jefferson City\, Missouri where you can find him playing his red Fender Stratocaster wherever people gather to share life\, love\, and music.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou will find Paul performing as a solo artist\, duo or sitting in with full bands\, including the powerhouse blues band\, Buddha Blue…a perfectly well rounded musician and performer. You may have seen Paul at Gumbo Bottoms\, Rose Music Hall\, Logboat Brewery\, The Outpost\, The Mission just to name a few. Former local projects also include Bird’s Eye Blues Band\, Rose Ridge and Monroe Street Jubilee Band\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
