SUMMARY:Those Guys @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm/SHOW@8:30pm/$5 \nFACEBOOK \n \n  \nClint Krcmar – Drums\, vocals\, maniacal faces\, shrieks and howls.\nHarrison Sweazea – Guitar\, vocals\, lyrical adjustments and general confusion.\n \n\n\nHow THOSE GUYS got their name.\na short story by Anthony Pierce\n\n\nOnce upon a time\, there were two drummers\, Clint and Harrison. Both of these men were talented percussionists seeking gigs\, as that is what has kept them young – or at least it works for Clint\, Harrison just keeps aging\, but GRACEFULLY. They decided that one would play guitar and one would drum and they would bring music to Mid-Missouri and joy and laughter to all of their adoring fans and friends. The only thing that was missing was a good\, short\, memorable name.\n\n\nAt first\, they discussed names and decided since all the other bands that they had been a part of came up with their own names and they were flashy\, cute\, or themed\, that these two wanted just to be plain and simple with their band name. But there’s already a local band name Plain & Simple\, so that didn’t work. They decided that if they went with the name Clint and Harrison\, it would help with their billing because well\, C comes earlier in the alphabet. However\, with Harrison being a wee bit older – by like 4 decades – they decided that Harrison’s name should be the lead. And thus the duo\, Harrison & Clint\, began.\n\n\nAs they began booking gigs\, they found it long-winded\, like this story\, and difficult for everyone to keep saying\, “Harrison and Clint”\, so it was decided they would use a nickname for Harrison and remove the “and” to get a simple two-word band name. And so launched the new duo\, “Harry Clint”.\n\n\nUnfortunately\, at their first gig at the parish school fundraiser\, the poster had a slight misspelling as did all of the handouts for the evening’s agenda. There was opening prayer\, there was a thank you from the priest\, a fun auction of items to raise money\, and then it listed closing out the evening with dancing to the whimsical performance of\, “Harry Clit”.\n\n\nAfter Sister Magdalen passed out\, Sister Gertrude turned beet red and screamed\, “Who are these musicians with such a vulgar name?” The entire congregation turned and pointed to the duo and said “Those Guys!” And the name has forever stuck!\n\n\nI personally am sorry that they went through that long\, enduring\, and painfully humiliating experience – maybe not\, they could have been snickering the whole time – as they searched for the true name of this musical genius duo that so entertains us. Although\, I gotta admit\, having “Harry Clit at the BluTaco”\, probably wouldn’t have gone over well either.\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Joe Lewis Band at The Mission!
DESCRIPTION:Doors@6pm/SHOW@8:30pm/$5 \n \n\n“The way to influence people with your music is to put your own heart and soul on the line for all the world to see. If your heart and soul are right and your message is right you now have the power to influence people in a positive direction.” – Joe Lewis \n\n\n\n(Article by: American Blues Scene)\nYou can tell a lot about a person when you learn where they were raised and came of age. In the case of Joe Lewis: Picayune Mississippi\, located about an hour or so from New Orleans. The sounds of the Delta and blues music were the forever background music Joe heard while growing up. So\, it is no wonder that those sounds deeply influenced him as he picked up his first guitar at age ten and began to play. \nIn American music\, the lines between genres are thin and the roots of each genre intertwine as they grow. That line has always been blurred between blues and gospel\, two genres that are considered the source of all modern music. As a gifted musician the choice to play electric guitar and sing words of praise is not a new thing; Sister Rosetta Tharpe pioneered the genre in the early 50s. However\, the Joe Lewis Band are trailblazers in Contemporary Christian Blues music. \nUp Next should prove to be another fine tool in their mission to open hearts and minds as well as doors. \nLewis and his power trio of Tom Cole on bass and drummer Derrick Enyard began 2020 by representing the Lake of the Ozarks Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. They then embarked on recording their fourth album enlisting super producer Kevin Shirley to mix the album at his famous studio\, The Cave\, in Sydney Australia and having the album mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig. This A-team clearly delivered to create a first-class sonic landscape with ten original tracks\, a mixture of straight-ahead blues\, funk and rockin’ soul centered around Lewis’ stellar guitar playing and sparkling tenor vocals. The rambunctious spirit of the album and its words of positivity and praise strive to blur the line between Saturday night and Sunday morning. \nThe session opens with a chiming guitar that leads us into the unconventional love song “I Like It\,” with words of devotion set to a funky groove. Lewis continues to give praise for his beloved on the soul track “Hot Lovin’ Momma\,” doing his best James Brown\, along with special guest Biscuit Miller laying down an authentic Bootsy Collins’bass line. The jump blues “Can I Get With You\,” features furious fretboard work and playful lyrics on a great danceable number. Lewis spells out his devotion as a seeker on the dynamic “Do Your Work In Me” and then delivers a touching tribute to a dearly departed sister on the emotional ballad “Broken Angel Of The Delta\,” a real highlight of the album. \nThe second half of the session begins with the account of the night Lewis discovered his calling while listening to a real bluesman at a local jook joint on the edgy “Do Drop Inn\,” and then proceeds to lead the fellows through a blazing instrumental “Twang A Doodle Boom Boom\,” swinging with fury. The trio continuous to show off their proficiency of authentic blues forms on the Texas shuffle “Baby Rocks The Boat\,” and another time shifting funk blast “Defying Gravity\,” with a clever lyrical twist. Lewis ends the set with an acoustic driven devotional “Jesus I Love The Way You Love\,” a sincere benediction from a faithful servant. \n“The way to influence people with your music is to put your own heart and soul on the line for all the world to see. If your heart and soul are right and your message is right you now have the power to influence people in a positive direction.” – Joe Lewis \n\n\n\n\n \nJoe Lewis Band: Up Next Review (Gloria Ruth Finney – March 30\, 2021) Blues Rock Review\nBursting with the sound of blues and gospel\, Up Next is the newest album from the Joe Lewis Band. The ten-track release is the fourth album from the trio; comprised of Joe Lewis – lead guitar and vocals\, Tom Cole – bass\, and Derrick Enyard – drums. The album is a mixture of contemporary blues and gospel\, flooded with familiar sounds of style and influence.\nJoe Lewis Band hails from Missouri\, although Lewis himself cut his teeth growing up about an hour outside New Orleans\, in Picayune\, Mississippi. It was there where Delta blues quickly formed his style. For Lewis\, life’s pitfalls around the age of 25 led him to discover his purpose – bearing his soul within the music\, while incorporating the message of the gospel.\nPrevious releases from the band were primarily gospel\, however\, Up Next\, turns the dial up a notch with “fast” lyrics and heavy grooves\, landing this album more on the contemporary side of blues. The album was mixed in Sydney\, Australia by the legendary Kevin (The Caveman) Shirley\, known for years of expertise working with Dream Theatre and Joe Bonamassa. Up Next\, was mastered by the acclaimed\, Bob Ludwig.\n“I Like It\,” is by far the hottest track on the album\, with an intro similar to an up-tempo version of Gary Clark Jr.’s\, “Bright Lights”. “I Like It\,” is definitely the song to play again and again. Up Next\, chronicles the life\, love\, and faith between Lewis and his wife; the first time he saw her\, their first date\, as well as the hardships of loss of family. Lewis beautifully slows it down in “Broken Angel of the Delta\,” to commemorate the life his late sister-in-law. “Do Drop Inn\,” takes the funk back up\, closely followed by “Baby Rocks the Boat\,” which has a highly recognizable Stevie Ray Vaughan taste to it. While a wide range of influences are easily noted track to track\, Lewis’ vocals and technique present themselves as a testament to his versatility.\nReleased Feb. 26\, Up Next\, is garnering airplay and rank\, charting across the Roots Music Report for multiple weeks in March\, including Top 50 Contemporary Blues Albums. \nThe Review: 7.5/10 \nCan’t Miss Tracks \n– I Like It\n– Hot Lovin’ Momma\n– Broken Angel of the Delta\n– Do Drop Inn\n– Baby Rocks the Boat\nThe Big Hit \n– I Like It

SUMMARY:WAYLON PAYNE w/Adam Hunt
DESCRIPTION:WAYLON PAYNE \nTICKETS \nFACEBOOK LINK \nWEBSITE \nSPOTIFY \nADDITIONAL YOUTUBE VIDEOS \n \nMagic happens when everything comes together like it’s supposed to — when the joys and the pain\, the triumphs and the missteps all click into place to be seen for what they truly are. Waylon Payne’s Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me (releasing 9/11/20 via Carnival Recording Company / Empire) is such a moment\, the culmination of an extraordinary journey set to music.  \nA son of country music royalty\, a teenaged Baptist preacher turned addict and actor\, Payne sings about fathers and sons\, faith and addiction\, recovery and renewal with devastating clarity. His character-rich collection harks back to a way of telling stories in song that revealed kept secrets and promised mystery. Over his years\, Payne has felt the terrible power secrets can hold and learned the transformative value of releasing them. Finally\, he’s in a place where he can harness that power to create transcendent work.  \nPayne recorded Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me primarily at Southern Ground Nashville\, a converted century-old church building just off Music Row that once housed Monument Studios. Payne’s mother\, country singer Sammi Smith\, cut her iconic version of Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through the Night” at Monument. When Payne recorded his vocals\, he says\, “I stood in the same spot she stood and sang while she was pregnant with me.”  \nTo help realize his musical vision\, Payne worked with producers Eric Masse (Miranda Lambert\, Rayland Baxter\, Robert Ellis) and Frank Liddell (Lambert\, Lee Ann Womack\, Chris Knight) to assemble a group of musicians that spanned both genres and generations. In addition to highly regarded players like bassist Glenn Worf; guitarists Jedd Hughes\, Ethan Ballinger\, and Kris Donegan; and drummer Blake Oswald\, the team brought in Cage the Elephant guitarist Nick Bockrath\, as well as Mickey Raphael\, Willie Nelson’s longtime harmonica player and a former band mate of Payne’s father\, Jody Payne. Jerry Roe\, like Payne a second-generation music man whose father spent years working for Johnny Cash\, played both bass and drums. Other musicians on the album include longtime guitar player and friend Dean Person\, slide guitarist Harrison Whitford\, and violist Kristin Wilkinson\, who arranged and conducted all the strings.  \nAs a result\, Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me sounds both timeless and out of time. It exists in music’s liminal spaces\, the way the late ‘60s and early ‘70s albums of Kris Kristofferson and Bobbie Gentry did in their day. “Bobbie’s my songwriting hero\, the reason I do what I do — her and Kris\,” Payne says. “When my family threw me out\, I picked the toughest motherfucker I could think of and modeled myself after him. I learned how to be a man watching Kristofferson.”  \nLike those artists\, Payne draws from tradition while stretching beyond any notions of the mainstream\, ultimately standing apart from everything else.  \nPayne has come a long way from the first time he and Liddell met back in the ‘90s when Liddell worked for Decca Records. Payne showed up at Liddell’s office\, unannounced\, declaring his intentions to become a country star. It was the same sort of bold approach Tammy Wynette had made walking in on Billy Sherrill about a block away and 30 years before\, and\, like Wynette\, Payne hadn’t brought any songs to bolster his case. Still\, Liddell found Payne’s combination of raw talent\, personal magnetism\, and determination compelling\, even if it still needed to be focused.  \nPayne eventually figured out how to harness those abilities\, releasing his first album and launching an acting career that included portraying Jerry Lee Lewis in the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and Nashville guitar legend Hank Garland in 2008’s Crazy. At the same time his career seemed to be coming together\, though\, a drug problem that had started in his teens was developing to a full-blown meth addiction that was ripping Payne’s life apart. “I was acting like a spoiled rock star\,” he says. “By the time I started making movies\, my ego was a little out there. Then you add meth to that\, and you turn psychotic without realizing it.”  \nNow eight years clean\, Payne finally can put all the elements of his life in their proper place. Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me testifies to a decade-long journey\, capturing songs and moments from his most troubled time\, as well as the grace and the relationships that led him out of it.  \nThere’s tenderness to these songs\, an empathy for lost souls who may or may not find their way home. Payne wrestles with the legacy of family dysfunctions in songs like “Sins of the Father” and “What A High Horse.” A pair of poignant vignettes\, “Shiver” and “Old Blue Eyes\,” team with tragedy and chilling beauty. “There are jewels buried deep in the record\, and if you’re a junkie\, you’ll catch them\,” Payne says.  \nHe views “Dangerous Criminal” as his point of reckoning. “It’s basically me admitting I have a problem\,” he says. “I am a person who will get himself into trouble and in danger unless I keep myself in check.”  \n“After the Storm” and “Precious Thing” play like prayers\, while “Santa Anna Winds” was written as a lullaby for the young boy whose voice is the first thing heard on the album\, a child Payne views as almost a son and by whose first birthday he marks his sobriety. Payne also recorded his own version of “All the Trouble\,” the GRAMMY- nominated song he wrote with Lee Ann Womack and Adam Wright and which Womack recorded for her 2017 album The Lonely\, The Lonesome & The Gone. Payne’s talent as a songwriter has also been recognized by artists Ashely Monroe\, Miranda Lambert and Wade Bowen\, who have chosen to record his songs.  \nPayne may have recorded Blue Eyes\, The Harlot\, The Queer\, The Pusher & Me in Nashville\, but it started a decade ago in Texas\, as he came through the worst of his addiction and got clean with the help of family and friends there. “For a while\, I couldn’t even write\,” he says. “I couldn’t put thoughts together\, because I had really fried my brain. Once I got sober\, everything came.”  \nFor Payne\, each song reflects a different situation in his life. Together\, though\, they tell of a prodigal son returning home — not to the family of his birth\, but home to the true self he’d once nearly abandoned.  \n“The essential DNA elements of this record are my self-written confessions and pleas for forgiveness\,” he says. “It all revolves around me getting right with myself and the universe. Maybe I still am a preacher in a way — I just channel into what’s supposed to be.”  \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n \n \n \n   \nhttps://youtu.be/6ItZ_0IDpUQ   \nhttps://youtu.be/BISTGzjGwUM?t=44   \n \n     \n\nADAM HUNT \nFACEBOOK \nTruly one of Jefferson City’s and Mid Missouri’s music gems\, Adam Hunt joins us for All Night Happy Hour. Sharing originals and covers\, with powerful vocals and picking. You may recognize him from Murphy’s Ford\, but you never know where he might pop up. Joining fellow artists on the sidewalk\, hootenannies\, front porches\, around the dining room table\, but you know it will be awesome. SUMMARY:Dylan McCord w/Tracy Blase {All Night Happy Hour}
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm/SHOW7-9pm  \nNo Cover – Tips kindly appreciated! \nDYLAN MCCORD\n\nDylan is a staple in the Mid Missouri music community. His resume goes beyond singer/songwriter\, including head sound engineer at The Blue Note\, master stage builder at Rose\, friend to many and a fantastic storyteller. Most recently he portrayed Neil Diamond in the reenactment of The Last Waltz performed at The Blue Note and in St. Louis. This is a treat for us to have Dylan join us for an intimate evening of a little bit of this and that. \n\n  \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/19809813_114954672459825_7563553093200117760_n.mp4 \n \nTRACY BLASE\n \nTracy Blase was raised by parents who supported his passion for music. At the age of 13\, you could find him performing in bars with local adult bands playing guitar\, drums and singing. He paused his public performances after high school\, but never put the guitar down. He was drawn back to the stage in 2012 and has since picked up the mandolin. \nTracy is influenced by a wide variety of musical genres: from punk to country and blues to alt-rock. He is currently a member of Rose Ridge with Jenny Babcock. The duo often shares the stage with Mid Mo’s plethora of fine pickers. Occasionally\, you will find Tracy playing a solo gig. Those are pretty sweet. SUMMARY:Clay Benne {All Night Happy Hour!}
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm/SHOW 7-9pm \nNo Cover – Tips kindly appreciated \n  \nClay Benne walked through our doors a couple of weeks ago for Open Mic Night. We don’t keep secrets at The Mission\, so here he is! Join us in welcoming Clay for his debut evening and All Night Happy Hour to boot! Keepin’ it Live and supporting LOCAL! \n \n“For me\, music started when I would ride in my dad’s truck with the radio stuck on classic rock. Growing up around it made me want to pick up a guitar and learn to play along. But it wasn’t until late in high school that I understood how much of a hold it had on me\, even more so when there’s a girl involved. Artists like Eric Church and Kip Moore helped me make sense of a lot of things in my life and inspired me to want to do it for myself by writing my own songs. Music has always been there for me in any situation and I hope that I can share that with others.” – Clay Benne \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/xTz0ahqIQY0JB94.mp4 \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/wjtz26FB3UmkorK.mp4 \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/HnwhDZj4UVm0kkT.mp4 \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/K60qOLEzbKmgXnU.mp4

SUMMARY:Down Side Up!
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm/SHOW@8:00pm \nTICKETS $5 Advance/$7 at the Door \nTABLE RESERVATIONS $10 SOLD OUT \nReserve Table/Purchase Tickets HERE!   FACEBOOK LINK    \n \n          Down Side Up was formed in 2006 by 5th graders: Ryan Mankin\, Aaron Mankin\, and Joe Lawler in order to blow Immaculate Conception’s student body’s mind at the 5th grade talent show. The show would go down infamously in history and Down Side Up’s journey would begin. Joe Lawler soon after parted ways\, but will always remain a founding member. In order to prepare for the 7th grade talent show Ryan and Aaron would join forces with friends Jason Kremer (lead guitar) and Adam Buhr (bass). This team in fact did go on to nail their talent show performance and make several house party\, birthday\, and county fair appearances. Freshmen year of high school the band once again parted. Aaron Mankin and Ryan Mankin were soon introduced to Helias High School Senior\, Hunter O’Donnell\, bass player. The three of them and guitarist Jason Kremer once again prepared for yet another talent show but their audition was denied. Ryan Mankin\, Aaron Mankin\, and Hunter O’Donnell\, the current lineup\, began their long jouney of vengeance\, delving deep into themselves and harnessing their Rock n’ Roll chakra. The trio began playing bars/music venues in 2013 at such establishments as the Mission in Jefferson City\, MO and later the Bridge in Columbia\, MO\, now located in Jefferson City. Down Side Up released their first EP “Down Side Up”\, recorded and produced by Pete Szkolka Music Productions\, in March of 2015. The band has since released three singles: “Hollow Street”\, “50 Reasons”\, and “Jibberish”\, recorded and produced by Jack Gue with Winksigh Recorders formerly known as Meth Lab Recording Studio. The boys of Down Side Up play their original music as well as classic rock and 90s covers all over Jefferson City and Columbia\, Missouri\, and are always working on new material which they hope to release in the future.              http://youtu.be/HKRAK5Ay_E0 \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/16120612_164699394015633_3440849956120821760_n.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/15938959_1479040205457263_8469322117802885120_n.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/15224901_1625336017776250_9039930461769433088_n.mp4\nAaron Mankin – drums and vocals Ryan Mankin-guitar and vocals Hunter O’Donnell- Bass guitar http://youtu.be/MRKADM-Qw-E \n\n

If you’re not ready to book shows of your own\, how can you get comfortable on a stage? Open mic events can solve the problem.\n\n\nOpen mic nights serve as incubators for beginning musicians\, or for more practiced types\, they are a great way to test new material before throwing it into a big show. For the totally fresh player\, it can be a daunting experience. Here are 9 tips to rock open mic so you will be prepared to take the stage and get the most out of the experience. \n9 Tips to Rock Open Mic\n1. Know what kind of an open mic it is. Do a little research before you attend the event. Open mics are not universally the same. Some are all acoustic (no microphones or plugged-in instruments); some are coffeehouse-style where people sit in silence listening to players; some are jams where a backing band or equipment might be provided. Make a trip down to the open mic you’ve got in mind before you participate\, or contact the host to get the details. \n2. Everyone at an open mic knows it’s an open mic. People there are not expecting a Lady Gaga production to walk through the door. They’re expecting a musician (or possibly a small group) to share some material that might be polished\, or it might be the first time performed on a stage. Don’t stress about what people will think. They understand the spirit of the event. \n3. Feel totally comfortable with your material. You’ll probably only have a few songs (many open mics are set by a song or time limit\, usually about three songs or 15 minutes @ The Mission)\, so make sure you’re putting your best foot forward. Just in case you get rattled on stage\, make sure you know the tunes in and out.  \n4. Don’t stress about what to bring. Whoever is running the open mic will have equipment for you and they should be fully capable of setting you up with it. If you’ve never plugged in a guitar or sung into a microphone—don’t worry. They’ll make sure you do it right and that it sounds good. That’s part of the Open Mic experience at The Mission. We have a full back line: Guitars – acoustic/electric\, electric & amp and bass & amp. Full drum kit & Yamaha keyboard. Mics\, cables\, stands. And our sound technician is here to help. \n5. Don’t be afraid to ask. Open mic beginners may think they are completely at the host’s mercy. Truth is\, we’re here to make you sound good! That said\, if you can’t hear yourself\, vocals are too loud\, guitar is too quiet\, whatever\, by all means\, tell them! \n6. Don’t be afraid to trust. The host should understand their sound system very well\, so trust that once you’re settled on stage they’re making it sound right out front. If you’re happy with what’s in your monitor sound\, leave the rest to them. We know our system inside and out. It’s a small room and you have 15 minutes. Let us do our job and make the room sound perfect for your performance.  \n7. Support other players. If you don’t want to be judged\, don’t judge other people. Open mics are a place to try material you might not get to try on other stages. Celebrate the people who come to share their art. Cannot emphasize this enough! This is the spirit of Open Mic Nights at The Mission. Enough said. \n8. Network. Open mics are musician hangouts—take advantage! If you’re looking to start a band or find musicians to see elsewhere\, there’s a good chance they’ll be hanging out at an open mic. We’re on Season 12 at The Mission full of Open Mic Stories of success. \n9. SUMMARY:Zak Skinner w/Nick Gazca {Friday Night} @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm/SHOW@8:30 \n $5 Cover \nZak Skinner – Facebook Music Page \nZak Skinner – Website \nBorn Zachary Dean Skinner on June 9\, 1988 in McKinney\, TX \, he started writing his own music at age 17 drawing his influences mostly from the alternative\, punk and indie/College Rock scene of the early ’90’s. After teaching himself guitar at age 15\, his natural talent\, and curiosity\, led him to learn bass\, blues harmonica\, banjo\, keys\, and drums. “Kick Me!” his first serious band\, formed at the age of 19. They recorded a demo\, and from that\, and countless free gigs\, his fans formed a foundation. Zak recorded a solo album in December of 2013 at Walker Studios in Gordonville\, Tx\, which was a collection of old and new songs he had written over time\, and produced by an old friend\, Tommy Walker. Together\, they have released the 3 song single “DEMO” with a full electric sound\, in fall of 2015. Zak traveled between states from 2013 to 2015 for work with Renaissance festivals. He used the opportunity to travel\, to play as often as he could\, gathering a few friends in different places\, before settling in Jefferson City\, MO. Missouri projects include Love-Seats\, Propaganja\, Rusted Satellites\, Persephone’s Whiskey Lullaby\, All of Us Together\, Collin County Steel & Wire. \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:Paul Laemmli - Acoustic Evening at The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@6pm/SHOW@8 \n$5 Cover \nPAUL LAEMMLI\n\nRaised throughout Mid-Missouri\, Paul grew up swimming in the deep end of a family of musicians. Paul honed his craft around the wood stove at the family cabin\, in churches\, and in the blues clubs of Kansas City and Springfield\, MO. While playing all over the great state of Missouri\, he earned a music degree and continues to earn a reputation for connecting people with story songs and skillful guitar work. Heavily influenced by the Springfield Sound and the blues scene in Kansas City\, Paul currently resides near his grandparent’s home in Jefferson City\, Missouri where you can find him playing his red Fender Stratocaster wherever people gather to share life\, love\, and music. \n \nYou will find Paul performing as a solo artist\, duo or sitting in with full bands\, including the powerhouse blues band\, Buddha Blue…a perfectly well rounded musician and performer. You may have seen Paul at Gumbo Bottoms\, Rose Music Hall\, Logboat Brewery\, The Mission just to name a few. \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/18912031_1465170376875401_4626329271336435712_n.mp4

\n9. Learn from the experience. Every time you walk away from an open mic\, there is something to learn. How were you received? What feedback did people give you? Did you feel more comfortable? How did you compare with the other players? Honestly analyze the event to improve your performance next time. And take the compliments even if you know you made mistakes. You still entertained folks. \n(10) And finally\, HAVE FUN! Open mics are meant\, most of all\, to be fun. Musicians get to mingle\, everyone gets to play\, and even if you have the biggest flub of all time—it’s all in the spirit of open mic. To take the stage at all is to win. SUMMARY:Josh Morningstar
DESCRIPTION:w/Clay Benne\nDoors@4pm/SHOW@8 \n$8 Tickets Day of Show \nJosh Morningstar Website and Facebook links. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/osjcagTQfFo?t=10\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/_7iS47Iwcww?t=2\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/JFZC1lW1Kt8?t=4\n\n\n\n\nLast night\, the blue light reflected off of the cement in a tiny listening lounge in St. Charles\, Iowa. A conformed church housed a bar in the front full of rogue townies\, and a lounge in the back. “Turn your phones off\,” the host of the lounge barked into the microphone. “Turn them off\, sit back\, and pay attention. This guy is quiet\, and he’s going to tell you some stories.” And my eyebrows raised when his hoarse voice breathed life into a quiet\, rapt crowd. With his eyes closed\, he sang songs -chunks of him offered up to a willing mass. “I’m not a singer\,” he said eventually\, looking down at his guitar. I leaned in to listen harder. “I’m not a guitarist. I’m a song writer. “In his songs were stories and in his stories were words pushed together that took my breath away\, and in his stories were words that oozed the Blood from the Before\, and in his stories were ripped edges. I wanted to know it all. I wanted to know the names of the chunks and I wanted to inspect the hole in his chest and I wanted to know where those melodies come from and I wanted to know how he chooses the words. I wanted to know what he has written on the scraps of paper in his wallet and I wanted to know if his handwriting changes when he knows it’s a good one. It was a listening lounge\, and we were supposed to be quiet and listen\, but he played a song we all knew. And we sang the words with him. We couldn’t help it -not one single person. A crooked grin formed behind the microphone and I’m fairly certain that’s why he does what he does. Not for the lights. Not for the cheers. For sure not for the money. He does it for the people that hear the story and say\, “Yes. Me\, too. I have been there\, too. “In a town out in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa\, a group of people sang the words back to him that he had written. A melody chunked out of one disaster from his life\, and sewn together with a rhyme\, and maybe that’s how you heal the hurt….Vulnerability. Standing up on a stage when you’d rather be holding a pen. Sure looks an awful lot like courage.-Rebecca Cooper\, Author \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA curious and fresh combination of grit and humor\, Josh Morningstar is knocking down stereotypes with his worn boots and unforgettable raspy voice. He is a small-town boy that originally hails from Funkstown\, Maryland\, and he carries those roots in a suitcase with him everywhere he goes. His small-town charm is evident in the way he greets people\, and in the conversational way that he weaves the stories of his life into his music. \n\n\n\nIn front of the bright lights and behind the microphone isn’t where Morningstar feels most at home. Named the 2018 Texas Radio Songwriter of the Year\, he and his Kristofferson signed guitar have knocked out melodies in dingy hotels all across the country. He’s written songs alongside Kendell Marvel\, Channing Wilson\, Autumn McEntire\, and many more. Morningstar was also the writer of several Cody Jinks songs\, including his #1 hit “Must Be The Whiskey”. \n\n\n\nHis lyrics force listeners to sit up and pay attention\, and his songs are always full of truth-bearing stories. The familial connection Morningstar forges with people continues long after his shows are over. Josh Morningstar has shared the stage with some of today’s most sought after folk and country artists\, including Shooter Jennings\, Cody Jinks\, Tyler Childers\, Todd Snider\, Colter Wall\, and Ward Davis. Morningstar continues to lead the charge on the front lines of a new wave of country music – one full of soulful honesty\, the familiar and true twang of an old guitar\, and provoking melodies that tattoo stories to the souls of the listeners. His ability to write about tragedies and victories enamor his tribe of self-proclaimed “Crazies”\, and the best part of it all is that he’s just getting started. \n\n\n\nSong writing credits with: Hayes Carll\, “Big” Al Anderson (NRBQ)\, Kendell Marvel\, Cody Jinks\, Erin Enderlin\, Autumn McEntire\, Hannah Blaylock (Edens Edge)\, Sunny Sweeney\, Ward Davis\, Larry McCoy\, Mark McGuinn\, Billy Don Burns\, Alex Williams\, Channing WIlson\, Wyatt Durette\, Casper McWade\, Steve Dean\, Chris Gantry\, John Berry\, Sam Williams\, Waylon Payne \n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/ZHJ3s3Yeogo?t=2\n\n\nCLAY BENNE “For me\, music started when I would ride in my dad’s truck with the radio stuck on classic rock. Music has always been there for me in any situation and I hope that I can share that with others.” – Clay Benne \nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/xTz0ahqIQY0JB94.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/wjtz26FB3UmkorK.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/HnwhDZj4UVm0kkT.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/K60qOLEzbKmgXnU.mp4

Enjoy it\, learn from the experience\, and have a good time! Join us for Open Mic Night\, share some air and feel the Mission Magic!
