If you’re not ready to book shows of your own\, how can you get comfortable on a stage? Open mic events can solve the problem. \nOpen mic nights serve as incubators for beginning musicians\, or for more practiced types\, they are a great way to test new material before throwing it into a big show. For the totally fresh player\, it can be a daunting experience. Here are 9 tips to rock open mic so you will be prepared to take the stage and get the most out of the experience. \n9 Tips to Rock Open Mic1. Know what kind of an open mic it is. Do a little research before you attend the event. Open mics are not universally the same. Some are all acoustic (no microphones or plugged-in instruments); some are coffeehouse-style where people sit in silence listening to players; some are jams where a backing band or equipment might be provided. Make a trip down to the open mic you’ve got in mind before you participate\, or contact the host to get the details. \n2. Everyone at an open mic knows it’s an open mic. People there are not expecting a Lady Gaga production to walk through the door. They’re expecting a musician (or possibly a small group) to share some material that might be polished\, or it might be the first time performed on a stage. Don’t stress about what people will think. They understand the spirit of the event. \n3. Feel totally comfortable with your material. You’ll probably only have a few songs (many open mics are set by a song or time limit\, usually about three songs or 15 minutes @ The Mission)\, so make sure you’re putting your best foot forward. Just in case you get rattled on stage\, make sure you know the tunes in and out. \n4. Don’t stress about what to bring. Whoever is running the open mic will have equipment for you and they should be fully capable of setting you up with it. If you’ve never plugged in a guitar or sung into a microphone—don’t worry. They’ll make sure you do it right and that it sounds good. That’s part of the Open Mic experience at The Mission. We have a full back line: Guitars – acoustic/electric\, electric & amp and bass & amp. Full drum kit & Yamaha keyboard. Mics\, cables\, stands. And our sound technician is here to help. \n5. Don’t be afraid to ask. Open mic beginners may think they are completely at the host’s mercy. Truth is\, we’re here to make you sound good! That said\, if you can’t hear yourself\, vocals are too loud\, guitar is too quiet\, whatever\, by all means\, tell them! \n6. Don’t be afraid to trust. The host should understand their sound system very well\, so trust that once you’re settled on stage they’re making it sound right out front. If you’re happy with what’s in your monitor sound\, leave the rest to them. We know our system inside and out. It’s a small room and you have 15 minutes. Let us do our job and make the room sound perfect for your performance. \n7. Support other players. If you don’t want to be judged\, don’t judge other people. Open mics are a place to try material you might not get to try on other stages. Celebrate the people who come to share their art. Cannot emphasize this enough! This is the spirit of Open Mic Nights at The Mission. Enough said. \n8. Network. Open mics are musician hangouts—take advantage! If you’re looking to start a band or find musicians to see elsewhere\, there’s a good chance they’ll be hanging out at an open mic. We’re on Season 16 at The Mission full of Open Mic Stories of success from Open Mic. \n9. Learn from the experience. Every time you walk away from an open mic\, there is something to learn. How were you received? What feedback did people give you? Did you feel more comfortable? How did you compare with the other players? Honestly analyze the event to improve your performance next time. And take the compliments even if you know you made mistakes. You still entertained folks. \n(10) And finally\, HAVE FUN! Open mics are meant\, most of all\, to be fun. Musicians get to mingle\, everyone gets to play\, and even if you have the biggest flub of all time—it’s all in the spirit of open mic. To take the stage at all is to win. Enjoy it\, learn from the experience\, and have a good time! Join us for Open Mic Night\, share some air and feel the Mission Magic! \n Tex CarrollOctober 28 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pmOpen Mic Night {Wednesdays!}October 29 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pmDanny RydmanOctober 30 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pmThe Mission Under 21 JamNovember 4 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pmOpen Mic Night {Wednesdays!}November 5 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm11/6 The Mankin Brother {First Thurs!}November 6 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pmClay Clear BandNovember 8 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pmSarah ParkerNovember 13 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pmJosh MorningstarNovember 14 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pmCoffman Coffman CardwellNovember 22 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm12/4 The Mankin Brothers {First Thurs!}December 4 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pmTandem DuoDecember 19 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm

SUMMARY:Clay Clear Band
DESCRIPTION:Clay Clear Band \n 7:30-10:30 pm | Happy Hour 3-6 pm \n		 $10 @ Door \n Clay Clear has been performing professionally since he was eleven\, dragged into a smoky honky-tonk by his music loving father. For years\, he honed his craft as a lead guitarist and vocalist throughout Missouri. At thirteen\, Clay was a founder of cover band Dirt Road Addiction\, a favorite in Missouri for performing contemporary country music. \nClay left Dirt Road Addiction in 2020 to pursue music in Nashville\, a lifelong dream that was rudely interrupted by the COVID-19 epidemic. After moving back to Missouri\, Clay put together the Clay Clear Band to perform his own brand of Southern Rock and authentic Country music inspired by his favorite artists: Waylon Jennings\, Ray Charles\, the Allman Brothers Band\, and others. \nClay has been recognized as Missouri’s Best Musician by Missouri Magazine since 2020. As a solo act\, he has opened for the likes of ZZ Top\, George Thorogood and the Desteroyers\, and David Lee Murphey. \n \n \n Clay Clear Band \n FACEBOOK PAGE \n \n \n \n \n \n Minors allowed with parent/guardian.\n \n \n Check out our bottom up tap beer\n \n \n Bringing quality live music to town in a clean safe environment\n \n \n “Keepin’ It Live Since 2009” \n	\n 10 events found.	\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n\n	\n Events Search and Views Navigation	\n \n	\n	\n\n Search	\n\n	\n \n	\n Enter Keyword. SUMMARY:Down Side Up
DESCRIPTION:Down Side Up\n7:30-10:30 pm | Happy Hour 3-6 pm\n$7 @ Door \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDown Side Up was formed in 2006 by 5th graders: Ryan Mankin\, Aaron Mankin\, and Joe Lawler in order to blow Immaculate Conception’s student body’s mind at the 5th grade talent show. The show would go down infamously in history and Down Side Up’s journey would begin. Joe Lawler soon after parted ways\, but will always remain a founding member. In order to prepare for the 7th grade talent show Ryan and Aaron would join forces with friends Jason Kremer (lead guitar) and Adam Buhr (bass). This team in fact did go on to nail their talent show performance and make several house party\, birthday\, and county fair appearances. Freshmen year of high school the band once again parted. Aaron Mankin and Ryan Mankin were soon introduced to Helias High School Senior\, Hunter O’Donnell\, bass player. The three of them and guitarist Jason Kremer once again prepared for yet another talent show but their audition was denied. Ryan Mankin\, Aaron Mankin\, and Hunter O’Donnell\, the current lineup\, began their long jouney of vengeance\, delving deep into themselves and harnessing their Rock n’ Roll chakra. The trio began playing bars/music venues in 2013 at such establishments as the Mission in Jefferson City\, MO and later the Bridge in Columbia\, MO\, now located in Jefferson City. Down Side Up released their first EP “Down Side Up”\, recorded and produced by Pete Szkolka Music Productions\, in March of 2015. The band has since released three singles: “Hollow Street”\, “50 Reasons”\, and “Jibberish”\, recorded and produced by Jack Gue with Winksigh Recorders formerly known as Meth Lab Recording Studio. The boys of Down Side Up play their original music as well as classic rock and 90s covers all over Jefferson City and Columbia\, Missouri\, and are always working on new material which they hope to release in the future. \n  \n \n \n \nDownSideUp\nFACEBOOK PAGE \n \n\n\n Minors allowed with parent/guardian.\n \n\n Check out our bottom up tap beer\n \n\n Bringing quality live music to town in a clean safe environment\n \n\n \n Jibberish by Down Side Up\n50 Reasons by Down Side Up\nHollow Street by Down Side Up \n \n“Keepin’ It Live Since 2009”\n\n 10 events found.\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n \n\n\n Events Search and Views Navigation	\n \n	\n	\n\n Search\n \n\n \n	\n Enter Keyword. Exceptions made for musicians only.\n \n \n Check out our bottom up tap beer\n \n \n Bringing quality live music to town in a clean safe environment\n \n \n “Keepin’ It Live Since 2009” \n 9 Tips to Rock Open MicFeatured Article\, How To Make Music \nAny performer will tell you that you can practice for years in the comfort and privacy of your room\, but it’s not until you take your act to a stage in front of live people that you’ll really hone your craft. SUMMARY:Chemical Mass "Toys Drive"w/ Kotora & Upon Eternity
DESCRIPTION:Chemical Mass “Toys Drive”w/ Kotora & Upon Eternity\n\n7:30-10:30 pm | Happy Hour 3-6 pm\n$10 – Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City Toy Drive \n \n Purchace Tickets\n \nChemical Mass is a 5 piece\, hard rock group from Jefferson City\, Missouri. Established in early 2014\, Chemical Mass hit the mid Missouri music scene and released a 4 track demo. Featured songs such as “Denial” and “Nibiru” gave an early indication to their chosen direction. Some describe it as saturated with “Tool” and “Deftones” like influences. 2015 brought around their first digital release\, a single titled “Beyond What You Know” which can be seen as a study of one’s self and the basic human instinct of conformity. A second release in 2016\, titled “Secrets and Lies”\, was brought on by an even more dynamic approach to their song writing where the fabric of our society and social structure is brought into question. Each original track is packed with thought provoking lyrics that are vocally carried over with driven conviction. The guitar work is a display of generously dynamic riffs\, grooving melodies\, and hard rocking accents. The alluring bass lines and skillful drum patterns form a rhythm section that calls to you like a siren in the night. Follow the sound and let us share the vision. \nSteve Walters – VocalsTom Troesser – GuitarBrad Toebben – BassJim Perkins – GuitarLucas Schroer – Drums \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \nCHEMICALMASS\n \n FACEBOOK\n \n \n WEBSITE\n \n \n\n\n Minors allowed with parent/guardian.\n \n\n Check out our bottom up tap beer\n \n\n Bringing quality live music to town in a clean safe environment\n \n\n \n \nHard-Rock/Post-Hardcore Band from Columbia\, MO \n \n \nKOTONA\n \n FACEBOOK\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nUPON\nETERNITY\n \n FACEBOOK\n \n \n“Keepin’ It Live Since 2009”\n\n 10 events found.\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n \n\n\n Events Search and Views Navigation	\n \n	\n	\n\n Search\n \n\n \n	\n Enter Keyword. \n Clay Clear BandNovember 8 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pmOpen Mic Night {Wednesdays!}November 12 @ 7:00 pm – 11:00 pmSarah ParkerNovember 13 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pmJosh MorningstarNovember 14 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pmDown Side UpNovember 15 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pmThe Mission Under 21 JamNovember 18 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pmOpen Mic Night {Wednesdays!}November 19 @ 7:00 pm – 11:00 pmPaul LaemmliNovember 20 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pmChemical Mass “Toys Drive”w/ Kotora & Upon EternityNovember 21 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pmCoffman Coffman CardwellNovember 22 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pmSunday Blues JamNovember 30 @ 3:00 pm – 7:00 pmThe Mission Under 21 JamDecember 2 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pmOpen Mic Night {Wednesdays!}December 3 @ 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm12/4 The Mankin Brothers {First Thurs!}December 4 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pmHoliday HootenannyDecember 5 @ 8:00 pm – 11:30 pm

SUMMARY:Down Side Up
DESCRIPTION:Down Side Up\n7:30-10:30 pm | Happy Hour 3-6 pm\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n$7 @ Door \nDown Side Up was formed in 2006 by 5th graders: Ryan Mankin\, Aaron Mankin\, and Joe Lawler in order to blow Immaculate Conception’s student body’s mind at the 5th grade talent show. \n  \n \n \n \nDownSideUp\nFACEBOOK PAGE \n \n\n\n Minors allowed with parent/guardian.\n \n\n Check out our bottom up tap beer\n \n\n Bringing quality live music to town in a clean safe environment\n \n\n \n Jibberish by Down Side Up\n50 Reasons by Down Side Up\nHollow Street by Down Side Up \n \n“Keepin’ It Live Since 2009”\n\n 7 events found.\n \n	\n\n \n	\n\n \n	\n \n\n\n Events Search and Views Navigation	\n \n	\n	\n\n Search\n \n\n \n	\n Enter Keyword.
