SUMMARY:FunkyTonk Band {LIVE!!} @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@6pm\nSHOW@8PM\n$5 Cover \nFACEBOOK {FunkyTonk Band}\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/FunkyTonk-Band-2.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/FunkyTonk-Bank.mp4\nhttps://themissionjc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/FunkyTonk-Band-3.mp4\nCombining four of Central Missouri’s country music superstars\, Funkytonk is a fresh re-visit to the best country of yesterday but scattered\, smothered and covered in masterfully crafted guitar licks\, tight grooves\, and tasty vocals. No Aldeans\, Bryans\, or Florida Georgia anythings…..just quality\, smokin’ country with a taste of rock and whatever else we sprinkle in…. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBen Van Dyke – Lead Guitar/Rhythm Guitar/Concerned Looks Towards The Rhythm Section\n\n\nIn High School\, he was once voted “most likely to succeed David Hasselhoff in Baywatch”. Instead\, he scored the lead part in a live stage production entitled “Meet Me In Fullerton” which was the story of a young soon to be musical pioneer in search of his hot tub time machine….or something like that.\n\n\nAt any rate\, the production ran for a staggering 4.5 hours and played in QuickTrip parking lots all over the Midwest. Just like David Hasselhoff\, Ben is HUGE in Germany.\n\n\n \nThese days\, Ben spends his time teaching his herd of Amazonian Pick Beetles to recreate the half time formations of the Mizzou Marching band. It’s truly riveting.\n\n\n \nHe’s also currently the Hot Licks Operations Manager for Funkytonk and his responsibilities include making sure Kyle remembers to walk to the A\, and Neil remembers the difference between major and minor chords.\n\n\nAs a side note\, Ben spends so much time dining at the local Mexican restaurant\, the owners refer to him as The Angry Enchilada\, The Hispanic Titanic\, and last but not least\, because of his love of their massive #4 burrito….The Mexicutioner so if you want to make a request\,\, approach Ben’s side of the stage with a great deal of caution.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nNeil Harms – Lead Vocals and Guitar\n\n\nProud to hail from the town where the Phillips head screwdriver was invented\, Neil was once known to collect dryer lint to sculpt into likenesses of his favorite guitar heroes.\n \n\n\nNeil has spent the last few years as an over the phone therapist specializing in issues plaguing aging guitarists. His therapy practice is vastly successful mostly due to the accent he uses when he speaks to his clients as it bears an uncanny resemblance to 80’s celebrity sex therapist\, Dr Ruth.\n \n\n\nWhile a long term member and good steward to the local music scene\, his fierce guitar prowess will often leave you speechless at a Funkytonk show however\, we caution you to reconsider should you ever decide to approach him to request “Wagon Wheel”…..go on\, we dare ya \n\n\n\nKyle Caraway – Bass/Vocals \nThis sexy hunk of 5 o’clock shadow is the most introverted member of the band. Kyle has spent the last 11 years hiding in a one bedroom flat in Point Place\, Wisconsin while spraying rental shoes in the local bowling alley. \nNeil knew he had a bass player with a true appreciation of the classics when he found out Kyle once worked as a staffer for the Hollywood Squares TV show and was in charge of managing Rip Taylor’s moustache wax\, inventorying Paul Lynde’s ascots\, and maintaining Phyllis Diller’s bikini line. \nBetween shows\, Kyle can be found at local nursing homes giving back to the community by grinding toenails for short-armed senior citizens. \nFunkytonk performances will guarantee you will get to witness Kyle sweating bullets trying to keep up with the musical genius of the other members of the band while managing the responsibility of having the biggest G string in the venue and hearing the voice of his bass sensei who used to provide Kyle encouragement by saying\, “I like the thing you tried to do there” (that’s for you Al)……. \nOn a side note\, Kyle is from the town where the flathead screwdriver was invented so he and Neil knew each other over the years from competing against each other in the community screwdriver flag football tournaments. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChris Parr – Drums and Backing Vocals \nHe may look like a well seasoned musician\, but this suave and debonair fella recently retired from a life as the hair stylist for British double agents with the famed MI-6 secret service\, left his Renault LeCar behind\, and recently returned to central Missouri to reconnect with his musical roots. \nAt a Funkytonk show\, you can look forward to Chris not only creating and holding the pocket as the anchor of Central Missouri’s fiercest new rhythm section\, but he’ll also be in the parking lot of the venue collecting donated roadkill as he is the chief hat maker for Silver Dollar City’s gift shop (drumming doesn’t pay as good as fixing hair in England). \n\n\n\n  \n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:JOE STAMM BAND!!! {Returns} @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors@4pm\nSHOW@8PM\nTickets @Door $10\nTable Reservations $20  SOLD OUT \nFACEBOOK {Joe Stamm Band} \nWEBSITE {Joe Stamm Band} \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nJoe Stamm Band’s newest country-rock album is as brutally authentic as the Midwestern plains and people that inspire these songs. A year-round working musician\, Stamm has become something of an anthropologist of the tiny towns dotting middle America. Thanks to his fondness for this so-called flyover country\, and his crew of down-home troubadours\, Stamm has created the soundtrack to the heart of America: Midwest Town (release date 9-10-21). \nJSB\, established in 2013\, offers distinct storytelling mixed with a signature Black Dirt Country Rock sound – a sound that Stamm defines as “a nod to our Midwestern roots\, as well as the Red Dirt music scene\, which has had a big influence on our music.” Fans can expect the fearless Black Dirt Country Rock sound from Dave Glover’s inventive lead guitar\, Bruce Moser’s fortifying bass\, and Tim Fiers’ heart-pounding drums on the new album. \nCutting his teeth playing in middle-of-nowhere dives\, Stamm earned the stage presence and grit it would take to support artists like Chris Knight\, Blackberry Smoke\, Sunny Sweeney\, Tyler Childers\, Whiskey Myers\, Jamey Johnson\, and more. It’s the same blue-collar outlaw spirit from his early days that Stamm brings to any stage and every audience today. \n“There’s a sinewy\, rootsy texture to his inflections\, always evocative and drenched in a rock ‘n roll spirit.” — B-Sides & Badlands \nAs a native to the creek banks\, cornfields\, and barstools of central Illinois\, Stamm quite literally represents the Midwest’s collective story. Taking his high school football team to state\, suffering an injury in college\, learning to play guitar in his downtime – it’s all part of Stamm’s journey to the stage. Yet\, throughout Midwest Town\, he solidifies that he’s more than the heartland’s football-star-turned-rockstar. Stamm digs deeper\, unearthing relatable stories of a Vietnam vet\, a long-haul trucker\, a medicine man\, a family broken apart. Storytelling at its rawest? Yes. Biographical to America? Absolutely. \nDescribing the band’s second full-length studio album\, Stamm explains\, “Midwest Town isn’t about one kind of person. It’s about all of us and our shared experiences. It’s about relating to someone else’s story–maybe even someone you’ve never met before.” \nObviously curated with care\, the album kicks off with a chugging\, distorted guitar and Stamm’s friendly twang. Whether or not you’ve experienced a tour across the middle of America\, “Pocketful of Quarters” will sit you down on that stool in a roadside diner\, swapping stories with a seasoned trucker. The narrative stream continues into the album’s namesake\, “Midwest Town.” This single will make you think of Turnpike Troubadours in their prime\, cicadas buzzing on a hot summer day\, and a place – maybe a “two-lane Midwest town” – you left long ago. \n“Empty Places\,” a ghostly ballad many will recognize from Stamm’s acoustic album\, Stories: Live & Unplugged\, spotlights his gift for place and character formation. An eerie reminder of America’s darker qualities\, this song is as honest and unforgiving as the January wind blowing across snow-scorched plains. \nStamm also delivers the two-steppin’ drinking songs that pair well with classics like James McMurtry’s “Choctaw Bingo” and Garth Brooks’ “Ain’t Goin’ Down’ (‘til the Sun Comes Up).” And throughout the middle of the album\, his words will make you see yourself as a blue-collar worker just trying to get by\, a wild townie chasing down a dream\, and a father who finds that “it pays more to fill a pipe with smoke.” \nToward the end of the record\, Stamm and the band take a subtle detour in time and place. While the album was produced in Iowa and Nashville\, “The Ghost” could’ve just as easily been written\, recorded\, and mastered in the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. This bayou rock anthem is as menacing as it is bluesy\, betraying a strong Whiskey Myers influence on the band’s sound. \nFinally\, Stamm makes his way back home\, ending with a lonesome acoustic track that’s probably as autobiographical as any song on this record. A song that reinforces Midwestern Gentleman’s musing: “[Stamm’s] story is an American tale.” \nJoe has honed his craft for writing the way folks speak\, using specifics to relate universally\, and finding happiness in the little things. Joe Stamm Band has taken those words and stories and matched them to country-rock riffs that will keep Midwest Town spinning round ‘n’ round your turntable.

Growing up around it made me want to pick up a guitar and learn to play along. But it wasn’t until late in high school that I understood how much of a hold it had on me\, even more so when there’s a girl involved. Artists like Eric Church and Kip Moore helped me make sense of a lot of things in my life and inspired me to want to do it for myself by writing my own songs. Music has always been there for me in any situation and I hope that I can share that with others.” – Clay Benne

SUMMARY:Forrest McCurren {DEBUTS} @ The Mission!!
DESCRIPTION:Doors @5PM \nSHOW 8:30-Midnight \nTICKETS @DOOR $12 \nFACEBOOK {Forrest McCurren} \nWEBSITE {Forrest McCurren} \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMissouri-raised singer-songwriter Forrest McCurren’s music is a celebration of the “luckiness of life.” In fact\, you could consider his debut album Oh Me\, Oh My (out August 19) a soundtrack to those moments of human connection that feel almost cosmic. (“To me\, the best songs are human and help us to realize how much we all share\,” McCurren says.) Debut single “Little Rock\,” inspired by John Prine\, a long roadtrip and a roadside motel\, finds the Midwest troubadour penning a homesick love song for his wife Margaret. “I had been on the road for a couple days\, following different rivers (mainly the Mississippi) and listening to different records (mainly CCR and John Prine’s ‘Sweet Revenge’) when I pulled into Little Rock. I booked the motel room based on the roadside\, neon sign I had seen on Google images\, usually a safe bet\, but when I checked-in the room was a complete mess and the AC wouldn’t turn off\,” McCurren tells Wide Open Country. “I probably could have had my room switched but the owner\, and from what I could tell the only employee\, was a sweet lady named Ramona that had run the place since the 60’s and I didn’t want to trouble her so I decided I’d go out and stay up late enough that I didn’t care that the bed sheets hadn’t been washed. I woke up the next morning with a hangover and a heartache for home and Margaret. I sang the lines into my phone on my drive back to Missouri and wrote it down as soon as I got home (after hugs and kisses).” The song’s video features Forrest and Margaret hitting the road for a scenic Missouri road trip. “Margaret and I met up with buddies\, and creative-forces-of-nature\, Brett Jackson (also a mid-Missourian) and Aaron Lawrence of Intrepid Creative. One of my favorite movie lines is from Cool Hand Luke when Paul Newman says\, ‘I never planned anything in my life’ and this video was no exception save one ‘planning’ aka whiskey-drinking session the night before\,” he says. “I wanted the video to reflect the chorus of the song\, being away from home and missing it and/or someone. The result was a long\, winding drive from Kansas City back to my Papaw’s (Big Forrest) farm in Mid-Missouri with Margaret in the passenger seat and the Intrepid Creative boys right behind. Important stops included: highway firework/cigarette store\, hidden Missouri river lookouts\, small town main streets\, Crazy Good Burritos in Columbia\, and the fields and forests of Callaway County.” Raised on the lyrics of Willie Nelson\, Bruce Springsteen and Townes Van Zandt\, McCurren values truth and human connection above all in his songwriting. “I never had a plan in my life; music has always given me something to keep mefocused\,” he says in a press statement. “I always try to write one true sentence. Most of the songs I have kept\, the first line I wrote was the first line of the song. Words come first\, then melodies get inspired by the words. I trust the quickness of the way I write. I am always jotting down rhymes. Songs have given me a way of understanding who I am and relating to people.” Wide Open Country – BY BOBBIE JEAN SAWYER | MAY 19\, 2022

Benne also opened our stage for legendary singer-songwriter\, Josh Morningstar!  Order delivery\, bring in carry out and join us for some Live and Local.  Keepin’ it Live and supporting LOCAL! “For me\, music started when I would ride in my dad’s truck with the radio stuck on classic rock.

SUMMARY:DALLAS MOORE!!! @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors @5PM \nSHOW @8:30 \nTickets @Door $12 \nTable Reservations $25 \n \nFACEBOOK {Dallas Moore} \nWEBSITE {Dallas Moore} \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n2020 started like any other year for Dallas Moore. On the heels of his 2019 LP Tryin’ To Be A Blessing\, Moore and his band were booked to perform over 300 shows for the tenth year in a row\, prepped and ready to continue tearing up asphalt between dive bars and honky tonks across the country. However\, as the global pandemic brought the live music industry to a screeching halt\, Moore suddenly found himself with something he wasn’t familiar with after all those years of constant touring: downtime. \n “I do most of my writing when I’m riding my Harley Davidson Road King or cutting grass\,” Moore notes. “Our tour schedule had been so heavy for the last several years that I hadn’t been doing very much of either. All of a sudden I found plenty of time to ride my bike and write.” \n The songs came quickly\, capturing a sense of renewed energy that Moore found in his downtime. \n “I hadn’t written a song in nearly two years\,” he recalls\, pointing to the silver linings of being pulled off the road. “All of a sudden\, eleven songs poured out in a three-week span. That makes The Rain different from anything I’ve ever done after all these years of constant touring.” \n Make no mistake\, though — The Rain is not a pandemic/quarantine-concept record — it still bears the timeless honky-tonk swagger for which Moore has become acclaimed over the years. From the flint-and-tinder autobiographical swagger of “Every Night I Burn Another Honky Tonk Down” to the timely awareness of “Better Days” and the album’s anthemic title track\, this is Dallas Moore at the height of his craft — a bona fide troubadour continuing down the path\, even if the path might look a little different after 2020. \n Moore and his band returned to Nashville’s OmniSound Studios — quickly becoming the band’s home court — to track the album\, once again tapping the renowned Dean Miller as producer. Moore’s self-proclaimed “Honky Tonk Dream Team Band” consisted of Chuck “Lucky Chucky” Morpurgo (Moore’s guitarist of 25 years)\, Tim Galloway and Guthrie Trapp on guitar duties\, Jenee Fleenor (CMA Instrumentalist of the Year) on fiddle\, Chad Cromwell on drums\, Steve Hinson on pedal steel and dobro\, Gordon Mote on piano and organ\, Lex Price on bass\, Sweepy Walker on harmonica and Perry Coleman on backing vocals. \n “These sessions were the most relaxed and enjoyable of my career\,” says Moore. “We had a lot of laughs and grins as the songs took shape and came to life organically and we got most of them in one or two takes\, which gave everything a live feel — which I’ve always wanted to capture in the studio. I think this album is my most focused and realized yet and another step in my journey as I kick the can a little farther down the road.” \n This live-in-a-room\, lightning-in-a-bottle energy permeates The Rain from top to bottom. Tracked in just two days\, it’s a snapshot of an ace songwriter and performer rolling with the punches in a year which had plenty to throw. It’s a more than worthy entry in the canon of Dallas Moore\, who enters an uncertain 2021 ready to hit the road again\, even if it looks a little different this time around. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLucky Chucky Forever

SUMMARY:JOE STAMM BAND {Returns!!!} @ The Mission
DESCRIPTION:Doors @6PM\nSHOW @8\nTickets @Door $12 \nFACEBOOK {Joe Stamm Band} \nWEBSITE {Joe Stamm Band} \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoe Stamm Band’s newest country-rock album is as brutally authentic as the Midwestern plains and people that inspire these songs.

A conformed church housed a bar in the front full of rogue townies\, and a lounge in the back. “Turn your phones off\,” the host of the lounge barked into the microphone. “Turn them off\, sit back\, and pay attention. This guy is quiet\, and he’s going to tell you some stories.” And my eyebrows raised when his hoarse voice breathed life into a quiet\, rapt crowd. With his eyes closed\, he sang songs -chunks of him offered up to a willing mass. “I’m not a singer\,” he said eventually\, looking down at his guitar. I leaned in to listen harder. “I’m not a guitarist. I’m a song writer. “In his songs were stories and in his stories were words pushed together that took my breath away\, and in his stories were words that oozed the Blood from the Before\, and in his stories were ripped edges. I wanted to know it all. I wanted to know the names of the chunks and I wanted to inspect the hole in his chest and I wanted to know where those melodies come from and I wanted to know how he chooses the words. I wanted to know what he has written on the scraps of paper in his wallet and I wanted to know if his handwriting changes when he knows it’s a good one. It was a listening lounge\, and we were supposed to be quiet and listen\, but he played a song we all knew. And we sang the words with him. We couldn’t help it -not one single person. A crooked grin formed behind the microphone and I’m fairly certain that’s why he does what he does. Not for the lights. Not for the cheers. For sure not for the money. He does it for the people that hear the story and say\, “Yes. Me\, too. I have been there\, too. “In a town out in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa\, a group of people sang the words back to him that he had written. A melody chunked out of one disaster from his life\, and sewn together with a rhyme\, and maybe that’s how you heal the hurt….Vulnerability. Standing up on a stage when you’d rather be holding a pen. Sure looks an awful lot like courage.-Rebecca Cooper\, Author A curious and fresh combination of grit and humor\, Josh Morningstar is knocking down stereotypes with his worn boots and unforgettable raspy voice. He is a small-town boy that originally hails from Funkstown\, Maryland\, and he carries those roots in a suitcase with him everywhere he goes. His small-town charm is evident in the way he greets people\, and in the conversational way that he weaves the stories of his life into his music. In front of the bright lights and behind the microphone isn’t where Morningstar feels most at home. Named the 2018 Texas Radio Songwriter of the Year\, he and his Kristofferson signed guitar have knocked out melodies in dingy hotels all across the country. He’s written songs alongside Kendell Marvel\, Channing Wilson\, Autumn McEntire\, and many more. Morningstar was also the writer of several Cody Jinks songs\, including his #1 hit “Must Be The Whiskey”. His lyrics force listeners to sit up and pay attention\, and his songs are always full of truth-bearing stories. The familial connection Morningstar forges with people continues long after his shows are over. Josh Morningstar has shared the stage with some of today’s most sought after folk and country artists\, including Shooter Jennings\, Cody Jinks\, Tyler Childers\, Todd Snider\, Colter Wall\, and Ward Davis. Morningstar continues to lead the charge on the front lines of a new wave of country music – one full of soulful honesty\, the familiar and true twang of an old guitar\, and provoking melodies that tattoo stories to the souls of the listeners. His ability to write about tragedies and victories enamor his tribe of self-proclaimed “Crazies”\, and the best part of it all is that he’s just getting started. DESCRIPTION:Doors @ 6pm SHOW @ 8:30pm \n$20 General Admission \n$25 Reserved Table (tickets seperate) \n(21+\, unless with parent or guardian) \n \n\n  \nWEBSITE \nFACEBOOK \n\nLight and dark. Good and evil. Predator and prey. If you’re searching for a well-balanced meal in a world filled with junk-food music experiences\, pick up Joe Stamm Band’s newest concoction: Wild Man.\nEver since their inception in 2013\, JSB has offered distinct storytelling mixed with their signature Black Dirt Country Rock sound. A sound that Stamm defines as “a nod to our Midwestern roots\, as well as the Red Dirt music scene\, which has had a big influence on our music.”\nFrom playing in middle-of-nowhere dives to being named Peacemaker Fest’s 2023 “Emerging Artist of the Year\,” Stamm has earned the grit and stage presence to support artists like Chris Knight\, Shane Smith and the Saints\, Tyler Childers\, Whiskey Myers\, Charles Wesley Godwin and more. It’s the same rough-edged outlaw spirit from his early days that fans will hear in Fort Smith\, an EP produced in partnership with Peacemaker Fest that sounds best when driving with the windows down. And it’s the same spirit Joe brings to any stage and every audience today.\n“There’s a sinewy\, rootsy texture to his inflections\, always evocative and drenched in a rock ‘n roll spirit.” — B-Sides & Badlands\nThe band’s third full-length studio album – recorded and produced at Treasure Isle Studios in Nashville – puts thought-provoking stories to a country-rock score. Fans will recognize the classic-rock-inspired riffs from Dave Glover’s lead guitar throughout Wild Man. They’ll also pick up on Bruce Moser’s fortifying bass lines and Tim Kramp’s dynamic drum performances. The words – specifically\, how they sound in Stamm’s larger-than-life voice – are what really stand out on this record.\nThe album kicks off with the title song\, inspired by a man referenced in the New Testament whose demons Jesus casts out and into the pigs feeding nearby. The song’s Zeppelin-esque words\, “Where two men meet with the chaos in their eyes…Where the owl flies hunting for the snake\, the wild man gives me back my name\,” make the listener wonder: Which of the two men is the wild one?\nAs the record twists and turns\, listeners will experience the gambit of human emotions. Nostalgia. Curiosity. Hurt. Hope. Acceptance. The things we choose to remember and the things we have yet to reckon with. It’s the nuance within our feelings\, memories and dreams that Stamm’s lyrics grab ahold of. A songwriter of his caliber knows mucking around in this nuance isn’t an easy job – but it’s certainly rewarding.\nWhile Wild Man masterfully bends the boundaries of rock\, country and Americana\, there’s a throughline from start to finish. The seemingly little\, everyday choices we make – that Stamm’s characters make – create a patchwork of a life. Of light and dark. Good and evil. Predator and prey.\nNEW Releases: Fort Smith (EP\, July 2023)\, Wild Man (full-length studio album\, August 2023)\nFind Joe Stamm Band on Spotify\, Apple Music or wherever you listen to music.

SUMMARY:THE DALLAS MOORE BAND @ The Mission!!
DESCRIPTION:Doors @ 6pm SHOW @ 8pm \n$15 General Admission @Door  \n(21+\, unless with parent or guardian) \nWEBSITE \nFACEBOOK \nYOUTUBE \nAPPLE MUSIC \n  \n\n\n\nDallas Moore is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter and entertainer who has earned a reputation as “The Hardest Working Man in Honky Tonk” and a “Modern Day Hardcore Troubadour” by taking his raucous and rowdy live show on the road over 300 dates a year. \nWith a career spanning over 25 years and 17 albums\, Moore has garnered the reverence of multiple generations who consider him to be the torchbearer for the Outlaw Country flame. Having toured with most all of the original architects of the Outlaw Country and Southern Rock movements respectively\, Dallas Moore is the real deal. Turning their influence into inspiration and bridging the gap between the founding fathers of the genre and creating music for a new generation of Honky Tonk Heroes. \n

SUMMARY:JOE STAMM BAND @ The Mission!!
