Al Jolly Trio
Al Jolly, Tony Lotven, Stephen Carter
Al Jolly -guitar and vocals (The Jolly Brothers)
Tony Lotven -sax and flute (with everyone, including Chump Change, The Fried Crawdaddies and about every top band in the region who needed a sax at one point, either live or in the recording studio).
Stephen Carter – percussion
“We’ve each paid our respective “dues” over the years, enough to have fairly earned the title of “seasoned with mojo.”
“Al plays and sings his own unique arrangements of classic songs, that can go from being pretty true to the record, to unexpected, yet tasty changes of rhythm, vocal variations on a theme, to improvisational morphing from the song at hand to another, that has a similar beat, hang on there for a while, then back to the first song. And I/we have no idea where he’s going or when or how. We just keep our eyes peeled and our ears perked, and it all falls together, so well. Its like we’re each identically- charged electrons, floating and spinning “in the pocket” around a neutron of groove.”
– Stephen Carter
