THE CALVIN STREET BAND

The Calvin Street Band was born on a crisp, sunny fall day in 2014. Robert and David had been jamming for a while and were looking to add another ingredient. Robert put an ad on Craigslist for a string bass player. Greg came along with his bass – it clicked in a big way and CSB was born! Soon, Greg’s harmonica playing friend, Dave joined in adding yet more flavor and toe tapping fun. Next, amazing Roger came along with his incredible fiddle playing skills. Their first gig as a band was a “Music at McAlester House Concert”. That was soon followed by First Friday at Fretboard Coffee. Since then they’ve played all over including these places:
The Crossing Church (Sager-Braudis Gallery’s Art Show)
First Friday at Fretboard
Coffee
Lucky’s
Broadway Brewery
Private Functions at The
Blue Note
Cooper’s Landing
9th and Cherry (by Kaldi’s)
Rose Music Hall
Top Ten Wines
Church Youth Activities

Robert (guitar/lead vocal) reflects on his and Dave’s first meeting with Greg after the Craigslist post:
“He showed up to Dave’s house with his compact Beetle and I thought “maybe I didn’t specify string bass, ’cause there’s no way he has a full bass in that car”. I thought wrong. “

David (guitar/vocals) on meeting Robert: “ Robert has been my neighbor since birth (his birth) and I knew he and his brother played guitars but didn’t realize how good they had become until just a few years ago when I heard them both play and found myself thinking “well what the heck?”

Greg on discovering the string bass: “ One day I was dispatched to deliver a document to the high school for my sister. I went through the band room and saw an upright bass in the storage area. The band director saw me standing there and said I could take it home. I was pretty much hooked after that.”

Dave (harmonica) on getting started: “My older sister was a concert bassoonist with the Indianapolis philharmonic orchestra. She introduced me to a variety of instruments by age 6 to include trumpet, clarinet, ukulele, piano. Got my first harmonica at age 10 and really never put it down after about age 12. “

Formed in the fall of 2012 in Tinley Park, IL, Hitsleep’s sound was inspired by several different genres of music. The differences in inspiration combined to form a unique alternative rock sound. The band rehearsed throughout 2012 and 2013, capping off 2013 with their inaugural show in Homer Glen, Illinois. They continued to play shows in 2014 at various bars and music venues including: House of Blues Chicago, Bottom Lounge, Elbo Room, Reggie’s Rock Club and more.

In August 2014, Hitsleep took to the battle of the bands scene. After beating out over 50 bands and winning the grand prize in Evolution Music’s Battle of the Bands, Hitsleep won the opportunity to play their first out-of-state show in the legendary music town of Nashville, Tennessee. With several live performances under their belt, Hitsleep released their first independent album, “Dirty Little Words” in September 2014.

In 2015, Hitsleep developed their catalog of songs and played across Illinois during all months of the year, ending 2015 at J.W. Hollstein’s in Tinley Park for a hometown New Year’s Eve bash.

Hitsleep expanded the list of states that they’ve played by making debuts in 2016 in Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, and Colorado. On June 28, 2016, Hitsleep released their sophomore album, “100 Nights.” The band looks forward to many years of high energy performances!
