“My name is Billy Jack Purnell. I’m a husband, father, and full time state certified welder. I am also an emerging artist from Jefferson City, MO. I write what I live. I was raised in the small town of Clarksburg, MO.
At 16 I was in a car accident and, during my recovery, I taught myself to write and play. I began creating originals from my personal life experiences. Somehow it got out and the response was overwhelming. People seemed to relate to what I had been, or was, going through. The support from early fans encouraged me to try to get my music heard.
I began recording and performing under the moniker “Plain & Simple” as I felt it best described the music.. Later, I had to associate my name as many didn’t understand Billy Jack Purnell and Plain & Simple were one in the same. This music has taken me places I never fathomed seeing: from living room shows, Bar-B-Q’s, and parties in and around my local area to the Nashville, TN State Fairgrounds; from bars all over Central Missouri to the Granada Theater in Lawrence, KS; from a televised interview and performance with The Edge On Air in Chicago, IL to Cannastock 2014 on a mountain in Kentucky. I can say I’ve played for hundreds and in some places as little as two. I’ve met some amazing people and made many friends along the way.
Music doesn’t pay my bills. My wife and I are certainly not wealthy. I work 50 hour weeks at the local steel mill and we live pay check to pay check. We live a simple life, love our children, and do our best to raise them right. I believe in God, family, and music. As a small boy I didn’t dream of being famous for music however, if God blesses me with providing for my family with my music I would be living a dream.”
