The Roadkill Orchestra ain’t perfect but Damn its entertaining. This group of Midwestern River Billies have been described as a cross between Flat & Scruggs and Cheech and Chong and plays a brand of music that cannot be pigeonholed into to any one genre. Who is this guy?
Dennis Layne: Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Barton County, Missouri. He found an old guitar in Grandpa’s attic in 1963. Went to trade school by hanging out where music was being made. More than 50 years later, he’s still picking and singing.
Dennis was a member KFAL radio’s Rooster Creek Boys as singer and guitarist for 10 years. Sang and played mandolin with the Ironweed Bluegrass Band for 15 years.
As a skilled sideman, he’s played electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin, steel guitar, Dobro with fellow artists. He’s worked in many tavern bands, or as one-fool-on-a-stool with a guitar.
Most recently, recorded a solo project called “Two Dollar Portrait” featuring original songs and instrumental tunes.
Dennis Layne sings about life, love, and losing in his own Ozark Okie style. He loves to entertain with an instrument in his arms. And he can usually find a tune that will make you want to laugh, cry, or dance.
