William Clark Spencer (born September 17th, 1988) better known as his rap/stage name “Goodwill,” was born and raised in Jefferson City, Missouri. Goodwill found his passion for music through his parents at a young age. His mom (Bonnie Tapper) and his dad (Gary Spencer) both were part of many different bands during college at the University of Missouri. His mom (heard on local radio stations everyday) is in radio personnel and has received many prestigious awards and his dad being an honors English teacher at William’s local high school (Jefferson City High School), also performs at local bars with a bluegrass type band. Both very open minded with all genres of music, they played anything from Punk and Rock to Jazz and Bluegrass. Goodwill took a liking to all sorts of music and the message behind every song. Picking up on the piano at 8 years old, he became center stage for his first time through music performing at many different piano recitals. Initially, he found his love for rap when his brother brought home Eminem’s first lp. From there he was inspired by other rappers such as 50 Cent, Ludacris and Nelly. His first true rap performance came in 8th grade when he performed “Grindin” by Clipse for the talent show in front of over 200 hundred students. It wasn’t until William’s Junior year of high school when he started writing and recording his own music. First influenced by Jer Nixon( son of the Governor of Missouri) , he began writing and recording with their rap group B.A.L.L.S.(Bombs And Llahmas Landing Superbly). He got his first taste of radio play by a St. Louis radio station with his song titled “Bump in the Trunk” from the B.A.L.L.S. album. That same year, William created his own mixtape and passed it around school. Recording countless songs off his computer, the name “dub c” was known throughout his high school making his own fame. While attending a local community college, he began taking poetry classes and reading his poetry in local cafes. It wasn’t until 4 years later that he discovered Fred Moore (also known as 42oh) through a website called Sound Cloud. After finishing up his fourth mixtape, William finally joined Fred’s label “Kushcloud Productions” where he recorded his first song within the studio July of 2012. Now Performing on stage and catching radio plays on xm and internet radio stations, he has recently finished up his second full length mixtape, “Moving On” along with changing his stage name to Goodwill. William has opened up for such artist as Murphy Lee, Jelly Roll, Sy Ari The Kid, Lil Wyte, Haystak, Yung LA, Lou Kang, Nappy Roots, Cremro Smith, Lil Flip and Chrome from what use to be Three Six Mafia. Known locally for his wacky and different style, his inspirational and motivational lyrics continue to catch ears and attract all sorts of new listeners. William states that “Everybody has their own ambitions and dreams, its how much you want it that separates you from the rest.”
