Johnny G & the Allstars, a standout band in the merging live blues scene at Lake of the Ozarks, continues to build a solid reputation throughout mid-Missouri with their dynamic performances. Whether it is at lakeside clubs, roadhouses, or festival stages, their guitar edged, horn punctuated bluesy and rock-tinged blues keep audiences enthralled. Their unique sound evolves from their burning covers of blues classics and carefully crafted original compositions.
John Gibble, a.k.a. Johnny G., leads the All Stars with soulful vocals and sizzling trumpet solos. Before coming to the Midwest, the Ohio native toured extensively with bands in the mid-eastern states. he has shared the stage with Johnnie Johnson, Bernard Allison, Lil’ Ed, Michael Burks, KoKo Taylor, and Chico Banks, and other legends. He was a member the well known Kansas City Street Band.
Self-taught, Chester Ellis has been playing music professionally for about 10 years with some of the Springfield area’s best bands. He has opened up for blues names like Walter Trout and Jimmy Thackery. Ellis attended the International Blues Competition in Memphis in 2006 with the Reverend Norman Jackson and the Pawn Shop where he won a guitar from a head-cutting session. He has played for Springfield area bands like Endangered Species, Tiffany Christopher, 7-D Funk and had the privilege of jamming with musical legend Don Shipps. Chester’s influences include outlaw country, some jazz, rock, classical and especially blues
David Watts was born in Florence, South Carolina. He now resides at the Lake of the Ozarks. David has played saxophone for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and the International Artist Guild. He has shared the stage with the late Bill Pinkney, Percy Sledge, and Government Mule, to name a few. He has played in several original bands including: One Trick Pony, The Watching, and Talking Feather.
Bill Roe is a native Missourian and the oldest of five musical brothers. Bill started piano training under his father at age seven. At age twelve, Bill started classical training on double bass, and continued in the school orchestra. While in high school, he developed an interest in popular music and started playing electric bass. After graduating from high school he went on the road with a regional rock band. Since moving to Columbia in 1993, he has played big band, soul, rhythm and blues, jazz, and folk, often providing colorful and passionate bass solos. He is a staff musician at Christian Fellowship Church, believing in giving honor to the One who is responsible for all talent. Bill also designs and builds his own basses and speaker cabinets. He is one of the founding members of the Jazreplab (Jazz Repertory Laboratory)
“Big John” Amaro has been in the business for 42 years. He is a native of Manhattan, Kansas moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1970. John plays keyboards and has opened for Johnny Winter, KoKo Taylor, and John Mayall, to name a few. He has done shows with B.B. King, Little Milton, and Artie “blues boy” White. John played with Harry Hypolite at the Monterey Blues Festival in California and at the “Eustafed” in Amsterdam with Linda Shell and Chick Willis.
David Ellis was born and raised in Springfield, Mo. He discovered his talent for percussion at age sixteen. He quickly excelled in his high school marching band and became captain of the drum line his senior year. After high school, he was accepted to the Atlanta Institute of Music and graduated at the top of his class. After music school, he began playing with ensembles in Springfield and regionally. In the summer of 2005, Dave filled in with Johnny G & the Allstars. He began playing full time with the group in the summer of 2007.
